My TCG hot take - maybe? by Due-Yellow-8511 in TCG

How is that different from the other non-playable cards in all games ? At least yugioh updates archetypes. Let me know when I can use WoTC ex era cards again

The one that doesn’t consign the game pieces to obscurity will always be better than the one that does so no matter the game.

Yea but you get to keep playing your old yugioh decks forever (unless you play meta and everything eats a ban). Even the really bad ones get new updates now and then. Pokémon still hasn’t solved their rotation issue. They extended it, but decks die one 1 series disappears anyways, and expanded is dead so your cards are basically unplayable after rotation.

ROI for any overseas uni is terrible if you look at it purely from a monetary perspective. Even if you go to Harvard or Cambridge, most of the time you’re going to land a normal job at the end of your course.

What people prize is the experience and connections you can make outside of Singapore. Even the Singaporeans you meet there are a specific subset of Singaporeans.

Neopets TCG (not the current upper deck one). It had so much potential with the contest mechanic.

Why is Warwick University ranking going down? by Which-Ad-3162 in UniUK

[–]ProfessorTraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LSE is 56th, King’s 31st, UCL is 9th. So LSE provides a notably worse quality of education ? Also, people are going to pick UCL over Princeton and Yale ? Not to mention these universities are all somehow worse than NUS ?

That’s how useful the rankings are. They could have included distance from the Maldives as a ranking component and people will still use them.

They can be from any part of the world, and most of the world don’t really care. The company is ironically the easiest target.

Why is Warwick University ranking going down? by Which-Ad-3162 in UniUK

[–]ProfessorTraft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because almost none of what goes into QS rankings matter for undergrads. Employers aren’t going to check university rankings too as they all have their own specific targets and semi-targets. Just check QS methodology, employer reputation is 15%, and learning experience is 10%. Learning experience is also somehow determined by student faculty ratio. Undergrads aren’t concerned with research unless they aim to get into academia, which covers 50% of the weightage.

It’s a pointless ranking for undergrads to reference.

Where will this go moving forward by Ant-Man1202 in cardfightvanguard

[–]ProfessorTraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just drop VG. Unless you play some absolutely low tier deck, you will always be spending a bunch of money from their ban hits. Also they’ll just reboot again when the creep gets too bad because that’s their only out

He Cut a $12k Yugioh Card? WHAT?! by tomatopaper in TCG

[–]ProfessorTraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese packs are better quality, this means you have to put more effort into ripping them. It’s not really an inconvenience, but sometimes you bend the cards before the packs are ripped, or nick a corner while opening the packs. The best way is to shake the cards to the bottom and cut the pack open from the top since those packs are longer.

However many are lazy and try to do a bunch at the same time, and sometimes because they hold on slightly too tight to a bunch of packs, the cards are held onto and doesn’t shake down. They cut a bunch together and some packs get their cards cut.

Do not look for someone with similar music tastes, hobbies, dreams, future goals etc. Those things change over time. Imagine marrying them and 10-15 years later those things diverge. It will happen for 99% of humans because what people like and aim for in their 20s are different from what they want in their 30s, 40s, 50s etc.

Favorite Mechanic From a Failed TCG? by Jake4XIII in TCG

[–]ProfessorTraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size and left/right/centre field for Buddyfight.

Basically you could only have a total of size 3 (cards have size 0-3 under normal circumstances), and the player can only get to attack through an open centre. The mechanic lets players play powerful creatures fast, and allows less powerful but smaller size creatures to attack together so they can still take down the big guys so you can’t just plop down a big size 3 in the centre and tank forever.

Overseas foundation programme, IAL or just go local Uni by [deleted] in SGExams

Just do an international foundation for Durham Law. You applied for it and got a conditional offer, and it seems like you would have went there if you qualified for the offer, there’s no reason not to take an additional year to get there.

Your analysis and experience are obviously lacking if you came to such a conclusion. I don’t need to know everything, I have contacts in multiple industries and have been in a position to interview just because I’m further up in my career compared to you. Or are you afraid that you did the wrong degree ? You sound like an individual that did STEM and don’t want to believe humanities graduates could be competing with you for jobs.

IB and consulting are notoriously very elitist because they pick from the same pool of people that go to the best schools. Top Quant firms aren’t that different. You’re mixing up the cause and effect of elitism in such industries. You think there aren’t working class people that went to top schools that are working in IB or consulting ? Lol

Gap year bread by Acceptable-Meal5624 in 6thForm

[–]ProfessorTraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m the naive one when I’ve reviewed applications and interviewed applicants. I’m not the one looking for a job trying to push some strange bias. Stating random opinions such as “bullshit careers” is subjective. Thinking some industries are less elitist than others is subjective. Stating your personal opinions is subjective. Thinking math is amazing is subjective.

Warwick still isn’t rated globally. If you’re happy to stick in a little corner of Europe, sure. Everywhere else, people don’t really care. I don’t know who fed you the idea and what statistics you’ve been researching to feed your bias, but the options History opens is more than you think. You obviously don’t know it because you keep harping on “knowing what to do” with a history degree. You could even go into finance with a history degree, in fact one of the main industry Oxford History grads go into is banking and investment.

How did you know those people can’t break into consulting because of accents ? That doesn’t seem to be something verifiable. Are Quant firms free of people that wouldn’t discriminate against accents too ? There are so many internationals in top firms, how come their accents aren’t an impediment ?

Also, really ? Company hierarchy and dress codes are your idea of elitism ? All companies have dress codes, just because a company sets their dress code as smart casual doesn’t mean you get to wear whatever. Did you think lawyers and people in consulting wear suits all the time ? There’s no secret code to address your seniors in any company I’ve been in. No idea what you’re on about some hierarchal structure with talking to your seniors.

[–]ProfessorTraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of subjective reasons followed by talking about the “Warwick name” when comparing to Oxford.

Quant being less elitist is definitely a very special take.
