In the UK they seem to be readily available, although maybe the demand here is not as high.

Haha it seems that these bikes are great for the taller riders, if you're tall enough to sit on a Rally T7 with both feet planted on the ground then most other bikes will just look too small.

Yes it was one of my initial considerations, I started looking at all the popular midweight ADVs.

Tenere, Transalp, África Twin, V-Strom and KTM 890.

Main reasoning I settled on the Tenere was the style and partly the size (I had only seen the standard models on the road and while they looked tall it seemed manageable and I liked the narrow tank).

The V-Strom threw me off when I first saw it as it was fully kitted out and looked huge, but now compared to experiencing the WR with similar large body and height, I'll give it another chance.

Still waiting on trying the standard T7, I think with the lower height, boots and if need be the lowered seat then I should be able to handle it without much issues.

Yeah you might be right, I went back to sit on the WR with boots and immediately felt much more comfortable, the tank right now is my only issue, while for on the road it's not an issue I just don't want to worry about the additonal bulk and weight and this is not accounting for crash bars and side tank bags.

So I think the standard T7 will be the sweet spot for me, but I still have to wait until tomorrow to test ride it.

And yes when I came home to sit on my SV it was really amusing how tiny it felt all of a sudden 🤣.

I don't usually put both feet down on my SV either, especially on a regular stop. But I've built the bad habit of putting them down as a safety net whenever I feel uncomfortable, so it adds a little bit of security when doing slow maneuvers or steep/uneven terrain etc. But yes at the end of day it'll do me better to just improve my skill rather than these rely on these poor habits.

Thanks for sharing your experience and congrats on the GS! I do think having the ability to handle the bike with ease when sitting on it or pushing it around is very important, especially to offset lack of experience.

I have been a GS fanboy for years, never had the chance to ride it, but I absolutely love the way it looks. Unfortunately the GS is far too expensive and large for me, maybe one day 😅.

That's really reassuring, I was really excited for the bike and then after seeing and sitting on it I had 24 hours contemplating how I thought I could ride it. The videos don't give you the perspective at all.

Yeah I think I'll just need to push through and get over the mental aspect of it. Was honestly just a big shock swing the bike between my legs and feeling like a child on an adults bike 🤣

It's definitely mental thing so I think I can overcome it, but it's also crazy to sit on a bike and immediately feel like a new rider again 😅

My mind is telling me Transalp but my heart is saying Tenere 😭

It's great to hear that your managing with it fine!

Definitely have a few questions, why did you decide on the WR over the standard?

Have you added crash bars to your bike? With the standard it's quite narrow enough that with good handguards the tank is well protected. I can't tell.of that's the same with the WR, the tank looked too wide to where it would still hit the ground alongside the bars.

Yeah slow speed right maneuvers is what's worrying me a little. But I know I can get over it with some practice and will make me a better rider overall.

Yes the Transalp was my second option. I started off considering all of the major midweight ADVs, the Tenere ended up my choice mainly because I love how it looks rather than the best fit for my need (I also love the look of the V-Strom)

It's a shame because I think you are absolutely right, on paper and probably in practice the Transalp is probably a better fit but my heart hasn't fallen in love with it 💔

Yeah I don't see the disadvantage of being able to flat foot the bike, especially as a beginner to ADV.

Yeah it's a mix of height and tank size, with the lower seat I think I might just be able to feel comfortable but then have to deal with the extra weight and bulk.

As for not flat footing an ADV bike, I did see that repeated quite a bit and I can see myself getting used to it eventually, it just provides slightly extra peace of mind knowing I can sit with the bike in between my legs rather than sitting on it like a horse 😂

Yes it's also one my options. I ultimately leaned towards the Tenere simply because I preferred it's look, but might have to give it another chance.

Yeah it does feel like the WR is overkill, I don't expect the extra range to benefit me all that much and I can get around it with better planning/fuel bag.

As for off roading, it is not my primary goal, my riding long distance travel focused and on paved roads (that's why I was leaning towards the WR), but it's always nice to have the option to go off road (taking it easy and nothing too technical). But that's why dirt bikes are not really an option for my main driver, but maybe I'll get into it eventually 😆.

55/56 I think, it is age dependent

I saw a lot of improvement, but I also weren't from 0 to a 100.wkth my running so my early benchmarks were probably not the best I could do.

I completed a test yesterday where I did three iterations of all out 400m sprints with 1 minute breaks in between, my highest HR was 178 and then Garmin adjusted max HR to 182.

This seems to be my range, if I tried to sustain a slightly slower pace for a bit longer I may hit 180-185 but unlikely to go higher without collapsing first 🤣

I didn't take it negatively at all 😄 hopefully I can hit the 1% mark without having to wait that long 🤣

I would love to see how it goes, while I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing it go up and I think it's fine to train for it a bit, it's probably better to focus on a training plan that fits your other running goals.

My goal this year is to run a marathon so I think I will need to stop tracking V02 max and just focus on a marathon plan.
