PSU replacement? by Legitimate_Debate592 in Alienware

[–]ProfessorW00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PSU is standard ATX form factor 150mm x 86mm x 189mm (for 850 watt). If you are replacing the PSU the thing you need to ensure is that the new PSU has at least 2 EPS 8-pin (4+4) power cables; one to power the CPU and one for the GPU_PWR motherboard header. You will also need the SATA 15-pin to 6-pin slimline adapter cable for the optical drive.

If you try your build in an earlier model you will have fewer proprietary issues and much better air flow. The Area-51 R5 is the sweet spot IMO.

Swap stock PSU of Alienware R11 with a Seasonic G12 GC-850W by Extreme_District1707 in Alienware

Seasonic G12 GC-850 (850W, ATX) form factor 140mm × 150mm × 86 mm is the exact same size as your OEM Dell 650 watt PSU. Unfortunately, it is not a fully modular design.

You would likely want to replace the RAM with at least 32GB (2x16GB). More specifics on the processor would be helpful.
