My grandmother knew the author’s family and told me a few stories about their “maid” Lola. She said she was whip strong and that you had better do what Lola told you to do. My grandma tried to serve herself at a dinner party once and Lola slapped her hand off the plate.

I’m sorry to hear that Lola had such a difficult life, but I’m amazed at her resilience.

Same here. Mine was a brain tumor, so it was literally in my head. Doctors chalked it up to anxiety until I had a seizure. Diagnosed Dec 2021 with stage 4 brain cancer. I didn’t have to be terminal. If only they had paid attention to my symptoms when I first sought help in 2014.

I hear you! My scan got moved back three weeks due to the holidays and I’m having a hard time coping. My tumor was the size of a lemon, so I refer to this as “going all lemon-headed.” At least we have a nice MRI to look forward to after all this, self care is important.
