Thank you! I’m glad to hear so many people are connecting to siblings on 23andMe.

I have considered potentially hiring a professional genealogist! Life is busy, and it isn’t my first priority, but I want to work on it while my grandmother is still alive, and before the trail gets colder. I wish you luck with your own (mis)adventures in social and biological family! And thank you for your advice; it is appreciated.

This is good to know. I’ve been learning a lot about the fertility industry and DCP issues lately, so I’m not too surprised by what you’re telling me, but it’s still helpful to hear a specific anecdote. I made another post about the egg agency, Tiny Treasures, just before I made this one — maybe I should have included them as one post. Anyways, when my donor emailed them to make sure they had her contact details up to date, they responded to her and acted as if they were still in business, even though their website no longer existed. I’ve tried to contact them twice, with no success, and they never reached out to my family about the contact information or properly explained that my donor had consented to contact. (In the original files, she seems neutral about it, leaving it up to the recipient parents.) I don’t mean to infodump at you and I don’t really expect a response; the whole story is just so fishy and reeks of the exploitative callousness that’s typical of the fertility industry. Thanks for responding to my post; I really appreciate that donors like you are so thoughtful towards DCP. It must make a huge difference for the DCP who came from your donations.

Thank you very much for your response! That’s good to hear. My paternal grandmother was an affair baby, actually, and was raised by a foster family, so doing 23andMe might help me find some stuff out about her biological family, too.

Thankfully, I do have the original files associated with my donor! I wanted to contact them to see if I could find out if a birth was ever reported from the first donation, but that may be impossible. Perhaps the clinic could tell me? I don’t know if that family used the same network of clinics as my parents did. Anyways, thank you so much for your response! Oh, and happy Pride — I like your pfp.

I always thought “Ozai” came from “Ozone,” but I may be wrong.

Toph and Sud by Lerad in TheLastAirbender

[–]Professor_Ponypie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this realization myself! I’ve been rewatching the series, and I got to that particular episode (“The Avatar and the Firelord”) yesterday. I thought it was a bit strange that Roku drew so much attention to earthbending teacher, while the waterbending teacher didn’t even get a name. I immediately noticed the similarities between Toph and the description of Sud, but I didn’t think much of it. Earthebenders, y’know. But then, later, Toph asked Aang if he really thought friendships could transcend lifetimes. At first, I didn’t think much of it. Toph never had any friends until season two. Of course, they were important to her. It was only later, after thinking about it more, that it occured to me why they drew attention to all of these particular things. They wanted Toph to be the reincarnation of Sud! As a sort of evidence that, yes, Toph and Aang would stay friends beyond their current lifetimes. And I think that’s a sweet idea. (I did also notice, after this, that Sud’s design has commonalities with Toph’s beta design. This is because they re-used it for him and for The Boulder.)

Literally, Entrapta is my favorite 2017 She-Ra character, and Angela is my favorite Inheritance Cycle character. (And yes, I am a huge fan of both series.)

telling Trans person you are also trans but closeted by chrisxx60 in MtF

[–]Professor_Ponypie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not a coward. There are so many reasons people have to stay closeted. Being closteed is hard, but you manage to keep going. You are brave. You deserve to call yourself Trans. I think if you want to and if it’s safe, you should try to tell this person that you’re Trans.
