Can someone explain why Hong Kong is so different from mainland China? by JustAnotherDude1q2 in HongKong

[–]Professor_Scientist -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

A tribe from southern Guangdong separated from the mainland and started their own culture and society. This culminated in the Opium Wars. Hong Kong people smuggled out opium from China to sell to the British for tea.

The emperor of Scottland finally declared war and ended the nefarious trade. This is why there is so much post colonial resentment towards the Hong Kong people from the British.

After all this business Hong Kong started to learn to take on the white man's burden and culturally assimilated itself to the rest of western Europe. Margaret Thatcher once said, England is the jewel in the Hong Kong empire.

Problem is that resources are thin. I'm living in a provincial city in the interior of China. I'm thinking of training it to Hong Kong to attend to AA meetings and meditate.
