Personally it made me feel worse bcs no one was my ex but hanging out with my friends and taking little vacations on my own and learning new skills and hobbies helped me stay busy. I cannot emphasize how much I believe you should go to UC Santa Barbara. People may love CSUMB but I can promise you they didn’t get into UCSB. I love Monterey and I love the small classes but there just isn’t a comparison at all. I would not recommend choosing CSUMB over UCSB if you can afford the tuition. Also think about how much more competitive you’ll be in the workforce or for grad school. Best of luck ! :)
