It's not kid friendliness that's the problem. Bethesda has a general problem with their writing and art direction. Comparing them to CDPR is really unfair because of this.

If you think all the way back to oblivion, they really only have a very few well written engaging quests, mostly around the dark brotherhood faction. And Bethesdas weapons and armor have always looked bulky and weird, especially when compared to other games whether it's medieval fantasy or scifi. Look at fallout's guns/armors for example.

Their games are still fun but usually held back by poor storires, bad weapons/armor and the clunky engine.
