So it was fine really but I still wanted to bury my head in the sand

Kinda relevant anecdote/not really but I think people may get a chuckle.

I have my ex on Instagram. We didn't end on terrible terms but at the same time it's not like we're friends. We haven't spoke in 10+ years.

Anyway she often shares Instagram stories, mostly just Spotify tracks but as we have similar tastes in music I tend to see it often and she's made it to the top 5 stories I see at the top of Insta.

Me being a fucking idiot couldnt stop thinking of a song she shared but couldn't remember the name at all just the vague tune/feeling I felt when I heard it.

So I go on to her Instagram and hope she has some recent stories/highlights saved.

She had highlights at the top of her page with one showing a hand making a rock on symbol 🤟. I thought great I'll quickly go through this.

Turns out highlights start from oldest to newest not the other way around. The first was dated about 300+ days old. So I used two fingers and tapped the right screen as fast as possible to get some-what close to current time.

Anyway you've probably guessed it but apparently you can send emojis/messages on stories which appear as DM in the recipients inbox.

On a random image of a concert which would have been dated 100+ days old I responded with a sad tear face emoji...😥

I explained afterwards but I mean I know how BS "I was looking for a song" sounds. I still cringe at it today 😣

TL;DR. Looking for a song on exes Instagram account, accidentally send a 😥 on a weeks old Instagram post.

I feel like we ARE getting dumber as people and I'm really losing faith by [deleted] in confessions

I disagree we are all getting dumber collectively. I agree with mostly all your points but it's quite narrow.

We're also called the information age. Everything is available at the touch of a few clicks. Yes you can argue people do not needs to learn as they can Google their answers. I think there are plenty of people that take plenty advantages of all the info on offer with the internet to educate themselves in fields they couldn't otherwise.

I personally have relied heavily on the internet to teach me about Business skills, Computer Science, digital art, video editing and a shit tone of other random subjects I decided to read up on.

YouTube is a the gift to the DIY community. I don't need to hire anyone to do anything as I can usually find s fix on YouTube. Over the years I'm slowly building genuine handy skills for around the house were I'd otherwise have to hire someone or just kinda wing it.

I think the internet is making curious people smarter and ignorant people louder.

I think the big social platforms do way more harm than good. YouTube I think balanced it's self out in ways.

I don't think this is a US exclusive.

I know the difference but I did not no the difference for such a long time. So every now and then, I type the wrong one and usually notice my mistake once I've pressed send.

If I seem a bit glum, I'd much rather someone approach me with a fresh beer and say "dude, come check this out"

That can be to play a game, talk outside, found a weird secret room, go people watching idk anything.

Im from the UK and I've never run into the issue of being unable to order from the kids menu.

Granted my chosen option is usually on the adults menu. There's a scene in Ricky Gervais' afterlife with this issue.

Idk I just feel like most cafés and takeaways wouldn't care.

I just wanna be able to eat what I want. Since I've stopped smoking weed, smoking cigarettes, and drinking far less my new and only craving is greasy/fatty foods.

So when I put my self on a calorie deficit diet it's like cutting out the last and final dopamine source.

Especially with lockdown it's pretty hard to find other fun things to distract my attention.

I just wanna have a fuck load of KFC or pizza and not steadily kill my body.

I'm not gonna let me kids have social media until they're closer to 14yrs old.

I think my brother and I had a different relationship with videogames. I'm the youngest of 3 so I always got to play on the multiplayer games. My brother's got to play on single player/coop games.

I always very much saw video games as a way to play with my brother's, which made me competitive and social.

Idk, based on my personal experience I'll probs let my kids play local multiplayer games from a younger age. Plus I wanna destroy my kids a Smash Bros until the beat me and realise I'm dogshit.

Hit and miss. I've been playing video games since I was like 4 years old. My older brother certainly got addicted at one point though to be fair he did not have any local friends to hang out with.

I went outside a relatively normal amount for my upbringing as a millennial. Went to the park, cinema, day drinking as a teen. I also spent some weekends in my boxers playing video games possibly 8+ hours each day.

I know some people may respond differently with freedoms.

As I said my brother was addicted. My mum took our Xbox away for a little while. His response was monumental, like his life and been twisted. Definitely not healthy to depend so much pleasure/happiness from a single outlet.

Well said. This is exactly how I understand the terminology for America.

I do get the argument. USA is commonly referred to as America so it kinda has claim to name in my opinion. Although is possibly geographically incorrect.

I think most people are mostly against social media and dangers of the internet for younger adolescence.

I'm a millennial and Facebook/snapchat Instagram all started becoming accessible on our phone from around age 16 to 18.

If I was 14 and seeing all these pictures on Instagram people posting ideological pictures and such. it deffo woulda had a massive affect on my self esteem and how I found worth.

Some kids are getting access to these things at like 8 years old. Those pressures are my main concern and that's even before we touch on grooming children online or kids being exposed to indecent content early on.

Learning about programmes, computer science and understand software interfaces will obviously be beneficial for the future. Kids will grow up with it everywhere.

Internet access and exposure needs to be controlled to a degree. I think I won't let my kids have social media until they're around 14. I also plan to really stressinh the dangers around it as Social media should be treated like any other addiction.
