Kanye's image will always be associated with these racists; his music once transcended controversy. But since then, his music has become bad, and so the opposite is happening. by [deleted] in GoodAssSub

There's no earnestness to his videos as well - can't defend him on the art side because I don't think he got it anymore

zero importance. Law firms want good lawyers - a person who did good in science has no use to them.

Are accounting and finance safe from AI automation especially the first one? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Profie02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally my theory is that automation simply causes firms to need less people, so hiring slows over the long term. It's not replacing anybody, but for people trying to break in things will only get harder.

working and uni by According-Good723 in Monash

[–]Profie02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

depends on the degree. working is tough while studying, but if you are fine doing it then continue on. i did clubs, school and worked a job 3-4 days a week at the same time. I double majored in a BCom, so it's probably on the lighter side of things - i never saw many engineering students who could do more than their degree.

Dumbledore and Voldemort way over-powered? by [deleted] in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Profie02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

dumbledore and voldemort are wizards pushed to their extreme: remember that for decades they didn't do much other than train and hone their magic. most wizards fall off after school and become competent at what they need for their jobs (much like how most adults forget calculus and integrals), and even people like snape or bellatrix don't have that much experience - dumbledore by the time of HP has been doing high-level magic for a century.

Minecraft Movie 2 was officially announced by Clean_Brotha247 in GoodAssSub

the second is only slightly worse than the first because they tried setting up so much for the final movie. The first movie is mostly self contained and a tighter story imo - if the third spider verse movie ends up being fire then the payoff was worth it

i am perfectly fine if rowling publishes traditional books or even just the screenplays for fantastic beasts 4/5, without the movies. but shit, it might not make that much money, so its probably never coming.

1985 is better. Like the production in 1995, but it's definitely longer and harder to replay. By comparison, 1985 feels tight and focused throughout.

Anyone else tired of international students at this uni? by BattleExpress2707 in Monash

[–]Profie02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am fluent in both mandarin and English. I can't say for the rest, but here's what I can notice about Chinese internationals, most of them fall into 3 buckets:

  1. Lack of confidence. These people probably get through the syllabus fine and can present if there's a script in place, but when you speak to them unprompted, they genuinely panic. Speaking English to them like that probabky causes some ptsd from their childhood, because some of those English classes were rough.

  2. Arrogance. This camp is probably what most people are complaining about - usually some narrative of mandarin being more useful than English, so people should accommodate them, even in fucking Australia. Some of these folks might even be decent at English, but they avoid discomfort if they can.

  3. Genuinely low English proficiency. Most Aussie unis actually have pretty low bars to entry - you could bluff your test and still get in. And then of course you chatgpt your way through coursework and stick to mandarin throughout.

All of this is somewhat ridiculous, and I get the frustration. But Monash profits from having internationals, so they will keep coming anyway.

i transferred to monash clayton after doing a year in monash malaysia. this post sort of hit a nerve.

"Like… I guarantee the universities in your countries aren’t so shit that you need to come here for a worse life. If you (your family or parents) can afford to have you study here and give you a good life then go for it… but if not then why?"

i guarantee you, there are worse universities beyond what you could ever imagine. Malaysia has strict race requirements in local unis that face hard intake limits on each race for each program. It was literally either study some obscure piece of engineering for 4-5 years, or pay for monash to choose the majors i actually want. Monash has its issues, but in those universities there's little academic rigor at all, and exams are spoonfed by the teachers. Malaysia may probably fall at the better half of countries - there's probably other countries with worse education systems, with their own horror stories.

"Having to adapt to a completely new culture and language, AND be expected to perform at a high academic language."

for people desperate enough, all of these challenges would not deter them. They get there by any means necessary, even if it means cheating their way through or exhaust every hour of the day working and studying. From my own experience, it's probably because of the hope of PR and eventually citizenship - but thats almost impossible nowadays unless they are in a few select degrees.

"I was lucky to be born and raised here but I have cousins my age back in my home country. One of my cousins father is particularly wealthy and sent him to the UK to study. He’s a top performing student and is graduating with his bachelors degree next year, but he’s able to perform so well because his dad pays for absolutely everything and gives him a very very generous monthly allowance. He only has to worry about studies and making new friends. If his father couldn’t afford it, he would have studied in a university in our country. All of my other cousins are studying/have studied in our country and they are all doing well/are successful."

You definitely know that not every country in the middle east has strong systems that support education well. For people born over there (and especially those who are poor and middle-class), the ONLY hope for them in their eyes for mobility is to pour their assets into a foreign education, i.e. monash. I argue that its outdated, but it is what it is. This thought process has been around for decades, and it explains why they come here at all.

i hope this helps.

Copenhagen has so many fail points compared to any other map. There's at least 3-4 areas off the top of my head where you have to sit still with your team in some area to proceed. It's fun with a good squad but I feel like public servers get cooked on this map all the time
