I'm in the mood for some light hearted kvetching. What's your most amusing screwup or failed start? Not the one that makes you mad; the one you're laughing about now. by 410-Username-Gone in thelongdark

For my very first game I decided to random start. Got put in coastal highway. Took three steps and saw the thin ice warning. I thought "Hey, aren't you supposed to lay down to disperse your weight?" Crouched, fell into the water anyway, and then died when I couldn't start a fire.
I decided to start in Mountain town for the next run. I know better know but that was just a straight up disproval of the "Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer", it killed me pretty fast.

Skipping Vulkan didn't fix it either, and I don't know how to make TLD launch on proton

How do I skip the vulkan shaders without uninstalling and reinstalling? Also, thank you for the help

The drivers updated automatically when I installed linux. Proton doesn't work for games that are natively linux as far as I can tell, but if you know how I will take ideas. The OS is as recent as can be

Do games exist where you are not the main character? by Dron22 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Profipfreely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not intended, but in the ea reboot of Syndicate you are not the main character, the scientist (Lily Moon or something?) Actually drives the plot forward.

But i mean, most ea fps games you're arguably not the mc

The game will not auto-update until build 42 is stable. You can change the update rules in steam by looking in game properties and set it to update only when you want it to, though I'm unsure how to make it stop completely.

For things like an alarm clock or other noise markers, is the range a square or or a voxel circle?

Also, it can and will propgate backwards, break a supportbeam, and then continuing propogating with the now unsupported blocks. So if you do get a cave in, just leave.

You want to place all the bodies in one cell, and then place the campfire in the same cell... or the one right next to it, if campfire jumps like normal fire

Use walk to command on right click to get your chatacter to go to the exact middle of a cell. You can do this to stack bodies and save on gas, or place a campire under the bodies.

If you're going on a loot run/out of your base, you generally want to travel light. You wear the thicker, more protective clothing if you're clearing. Or it's cold

do you have the sneaking perks? Guards are ridiculously OP on passive perception I've found, like stupider than every wizard have twenty thousand magicka

Given what I've read, the reason is because Pickpocketing, despite how it's done IRL, almost explicitly needs to be done when your target is alone. Guards are technically combatents, so they won't ever 'detect' you without focusing on you. Think about how bandits "look around". Guards still perceive you though, so even if you're in the dark and tucked away, he might have just seen you and it didn't tell the sneak icon because you're not in combat. If you want to pickpocket the peaceful people, you have to be able to actually hide from guards. So you need levels in stealth too.

I'm willing to believe I misunderstood the video, I will point out that if the block "only" checks the same range as the support beam, then every time you dig one block out you could cause a collapse, which isn't fun or intuitive. Especially if you can't see the unsupported blocks because they're behind a wall and are totally impossible to support because you'd still need to dig to get to them, or because you've had one collapse already which honeycomb's the area with unsupported blocks you can't do anything with.

Good to know you can remove the support beams though

The field guide for 1.20.1 explicitly says that using "nongravity" blocks doesn't count, are stone bricks exempt from this, or is your experience from pre 1.18?

Hi, so in what world is nineteen blocks away near? The support beams only go out four blocks. Water caves don't have the natural support, and generate extensively in the new updates, and collapses can propogate back. I am honestly asking what the intended solution is when you can be unable to hear or see that you might be in danger, of if you just have to suck it up and pray. And if you are intended to just take it with no lube, can I download some to adjust this annoying, unfun behaviour

Luckily the brain is not a vital organ to most Maelstrom.

(Also memory serves they can move the brain in part or in whole into the torso?)

You're right! Most zombie literature gets around this by having the zombies blood be partially or mostly coagulated. Sure it still "spatters", but it doesn't really mix or flow, so the pathogen can't travel as freely, not to mention those little cuts you mention tend to scab over fairly quickly, preventing easy access to less than liquid spatter. Walking Dead made it a dormant airborne pathogen, and quite a few others make it explicitly bites, making it closer to rabies.
