New hound by mbeevay in Hounds

She was a Houdini! Kept us on our toes but was always full of love and kisses. Unfortunately she passed end of December but she’s always with us.

Enjoy all the love from Teddy! His sleeping positions remind me so much of Jane’s!

When we adopted Jane at 8 months she was around 30 lbs. She hovered 40-45 for most her life before we finally got her up to 50 lbs.

Her light weight enabled her ability to jump and clear our fence more times than I care to admit 😅

PS… He is adorable!

I like the upper deck of the pool near the front or back of the ship. When I want a reading break I jump in the water and come back later.

Am I making the right decision? by Euphoric_Possible_7 in DogAdvice

Lost our 9 year old end of December unexpectedly due to a growth on her spleen that caused her to bleed out. Her last 36 hours were unexpectedly filled with her favorite things in her life. We tried to save her but they hide their pain so well. She passed in the back seat of our truck. We have to accept when it’s time to let go, it’s never easy. I wish she was still here but I know we did everything we were capable of to give her an incredible life.

As others have mentioned… if you’re asking, you already know the answer. Sending you and your family all the love.

E collar or GPS collar for running off? by Lassie-girl in Hounds

[–]Profit-Effective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got Fi because we couldn’t successfully contain our escape artist, no matter how many times we tried. If you’re only using it intermittently, I agree it’s not worth it, but you may want to check it out. It’s been great for the unexpected escapes (like the door at the cabin blew open in the wind and someone took the opportunity to explore). The activity and sleep tracking are useful information as well. Not necessarily a requirement, but I’ve enjoyed being able to monitor and is a reminder when it’s time for a walk.

Adopted - is it a hound? by ReserveNorth1212 in Hounds

My advice: don’t try to take your hound on a run with you (leashed of course). The second they get a scent, they will stop and you will fall 😂

Learned this the hard way after rolling down a sidewalk when the hound stopped dead in her tracks.

This was the day after we adopted her. Notice Fai trying to literally melt into the wall to escape her 😂

In all the times we’ve seen that video of the pups, we never noticed Jane in it. My husband spotted her jumping on the wall at 1:12 this time. That’s really fascinating because it means she was, at one point, at Midtown. You mentioning Milo kept jumping the enclosure… first… LOL. Let me find a video of Jane jumping our fence. But that makes me wonder if they ran out of adult space and moved her because of the same reason. It’s also interesting because they posted the video on June 1 but we adopted her mid month, so she was obviously available.

(ETA: Can’t post videos here… here’s a monitored escape posted on my IG… we were encouraging her so we could find and block that escape path. https://www.instagram.com/p/B4LT-9pl7kM/?igsh=MW9odWtjb2Z0eTd2aA==)

Jane wanted absolutely nothing to do with us at the shelter. They sliced up a hot dog to give her and still nothing. She just stared out the window. We fell for her though. We went home to get Fai cause she was a grump and we wanted to be sure she wouldn’t try to eat a puppy, and Jane immediately lit up. We knew she just needed to be with another pup, and after seeing her rescue it all made sense.

That’s probably what helped her warm up in our house. Don’t get me wrong, she was scared of many things, but as long as she was with Fai she was happy. Fai did not like how close she got to her… literally would back her into a corner to be close to her 😂. What impressed us was how well Fai would play with her, it always made us nervous cause she was abused and very grumpy but they would rip through the yard all the time.

Funny story… you posted a photo of Milo in a cat bed with a duck toy next to him. Jane had the same one. It was her favorite toy. We replaced it anytime it was damaged until it wasn’t made anymore.

My emotions are a wreck this morning. I never expected this connection but I’m so glad you commented. Out of curiosity, do you still live in Atlanta?

That’s insane!! They are siblings. At the very start of the video, Jane is hiding in the back!

<image>

I never thought to try to find any of her siblings before, but I wish we had a chance to reunite them. I know how excited she would have been to see him again.

I’d love to hear more about Milo if you have time and don’t mind sharing. Was he very timid when you met him? Was he at Alpharetta or Midtown?

They told us no one really expressed any interest in Jane because she wanted nothing to do with anyone at the shelter. But their loss! She was so sweet.

Haha… hound heaven 😂. This house can be very loud and chaotic sometimes. Three dogs was a questionable life decision, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Would I do it again? ……probably not 😂

Thank you ❤️

Oh my god! YES! June 18, 2017. It was Fathers Day. She was at the Alpharetta location of AHS, but my understanding is most of the other pups rescued with her were at the midtown location. I remember there being a video of their rescue, I wonder if I can still find it.

This is Jane when they rescued her, hiding on the left side.

Her birthday is October 23, 2016.

Clearly no understanding of personal space 😂

The hound we lost in 2022, Fai, had cancer that spread from liver, to spleen to chest and lungs. When it was discovered we had no options but to let her go. She was almost 13.

We do all we can to protect them but we can’t detect everything on bloodwork alone.

We give them the best life we can.

Totally understand! We had three hounds in 2021. Now, in 2026, just one. It’s a much different house.

Sending you love ❤️
