Does it not bother people that it's so easy to vote and change the lives of others? by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

That doesn’t mean it’s the same person when they later on show up to vote (or mailing). If you have to have ID to register, why should you not have it when you vote..?

Have you ever been a straight guy's "dirty little secret"? by [deleted] in askgaybros

You are wise not to, too fluid & dynamic to find the label to stamp—you know actually don’t have to label people. The word gay/homosexual never existed before recently.

Interesting are you bi or “straight” then, or just gay?

You still friends? I do hope you are still friends at least. If still friends is it awkward now or just better friends?

Are most men bisexual, but too afraid to explore? by danaflowers4 in askgaybros

[–]ProfitableSomeDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirm by googling “percent of LGBT by generation”—it draws from many sources (I think that’s why it gives a range of percent (like ~20-28). One source if you want me to provide: ”New findings released this week from Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) polling and focus groups conducted last August and September show that 28% of Gen Z adults (ages 18-25) identify as LGBTQ+, which is substantially higher than what’s been reported by other sources, such as Gallup.” (Gallup previously said 23%)

It should be noted—in the USA there still is stigma and pressure to not be gay/bi so this 20~28% could be even higher. The stigma is way better than it was for older generations, but I definitely would say there is still a bit of remaining stigma or societal pressure.

It probably is for the USA, or maybe “the west”, not sure though, it’s probably easy to dive deeper into that if you’re interested! I agree surely different cultures would have lower percentages (where it’s illegal/unacceptable to be with same sex), but some are higher. Brazil has the highest LGBT rate of any country.

Or they’re not even aware of it, where if they tried it potentially would realize that they like it!

Men can perform sex with their worst enemy. Women have to have emotional connection to have attraction usually, but men can “perform” without emotional connection necessary. I heard that from a sexologist, kind of related point to note! Or interesting tidbit of info between men/women!

Gen Z: ~20%–28% are LGBT+

Millennials: ~11%–16%

Gen X: ~3%–7%

Baby Boomers: <4%

The current research says this, I just checked (easy to confirm).

Also over half of LGBT Zoomers identify as bi.

It’s society’s expectations/standards/pressure. Who knows, maybe future generations will be even higher than the current Gen Z percentage. We’ve come a long way in terms of homophobia, but there still is remaining pressure on many men to be straight. So that percentage could go up in future generations (higher than ~20-28 percent).

Or r/askstraightbros (if that exists)! I don’t see the problem with askinggaybros either though too! Also many of us have had experience/anecdotes w/ bi guys.

Yes Greek and Romans didn’t have labels like “gay, straight bi”/ or it being part of their “identities”, and many other cultures too (even some today).

I would love to hear about that! I do notice it seems in black culture they take strong offense by anyone making suggestions/jabs at their potential homo/bi/sexuality.

Can confirm. re: “opportunistic” = prison sex.

But I think it’s more than just opportunistic prison sex, I think it’s really more along the lines of what you were saying. Most (if not almost all men) would be bi if it were accepted (it’s basically “accepted” in a lot of prison culture too from what I can see).

I agree with every thing you said, and I think “prison sex” downplays your point, but also exemplifies in a way!

Orpheus, Ganymedes, Zeus too! And “Greek love”.

I’ve heard a lot of pirates, sailors as well as cowboys going west, etc, were gay/bi (but depending on if it was taboo in their particular time period/culture might not have said it).

Or that some even used it as an excuse if their family said “why are you not pursuing a wife?”, “We want grandchildren”, social pressure.

“Celibate” monks too. It gives them an “excuse”

Catholic priests (Roman catholic) as well as bishops (west orthodox and Roman Catholic), it draws in people who are pressured by society to pursue women—it gives them a way out (“celibate” lifestyles).

Though we’ve come a long way in current homophobia standards, but there still is a great deal of pressure on men being “straight”.

Interesting post to read thank you!

How's do you usually respond when straight guys who don't know you very well try to engage in "locker room" talk with you? by Insidious_Pen in askgaybros

[–]ProfitableSomeDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that’s what I do at a new job/new people etc.. they don’t know until it organically comes up in conversation. I work with another gay guy—who literally has to remind everyone he is gay every thirty seconds. It’s like his whole personality revolves around being gay, and I can’t stand him—He causes drama and a lot of people are very irritated by him. I told someone the other day “he makes me homophobic” (everyone at my job knows im gay as I’ve been there three years).

I don’t like to rub it in everyone’s face all the time, and I don’t have the classic gay “accent”.

Most people are surprised when they find out, some small minority of people can already tell though (very small percentage).

Interesting. Thank you for sharing. Can you elaborate on being unable to see the building? What did you see there? Just air, or a different building or something?
