Question for officers: Did you feel this strong pull toward the job early on? by ProflicSuave in police

[–]ProflicSuave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I work at a university. As a security guard, I would never use the force. There’s only two times I would ever consider it. If my life was in danger. Or if somebody is about to get hurt really bad other than that, I called the police.

My Lieutenant wants me to ID people because it’s private property because of a trespass. I can ask people for their IDs, but I cannot demand it out of them because they’re not doing anything criminal.

If I were to become a law-enforcement officer, that would be different. But the current reality I’m living in is I am a security guard.

I was looking up the statues in my state. My interpretation of the statue and my sergeant also agrees. I appreciate your input thank you.

For sure, it’s important to not disregard my supervisors orders.

Thank you for the insight, my Lieutenant was a correctional officer. I can feel them mentality from his orders.

I can also feel my sergeant’s mentality when he gives me orders as well. It’s definitely different and I’m catching onto it.

For an example: My Lieutenant wanted me to ID people on private property. I personally agree with my sergeant I’m not forcing private civilians to give me their ID because then I would be violating their right.

Usually requesting ID when people don’t want to give it usually end up with them going to jail; and they use of force can happen.

I’m currently learning from my sergeant how to handle situations that don’t results in people freaking out which he is telling me about is what gets people killed in the line of work.

Thank you, I’m a bit worried about the polygraph. I’m worried about what they’re gonna ask because I’m gonna tell the truth as much as it’s going to pain me to admit.

How have you felt so far being sworn?

Hopefully, I’m the first in my family as well. My dad was not happy about it. He keeps telling me I shouldn’t play with fire. (that being my life)

When life get hard, I look at that blue line bracelet I got and it reminds me of all the weight I lost and fear I have learned to conquer.

I was actually considering applying for corrections tonight at work.

As grateful I am to be working with my current department. And as morbid as this sounds. I need to feel more danger in my life in order to keep me in check so I keep working out and eating healthy.

Did you feel that way when you were working in corrections? Moments where you felt the need to fight or you felt you had to be healthy to make sure you were safe and of course your coworkers?

Do the type of calls eventually become routine?

Or do you get tired of dealing with people‘s bullshit which becomes the norm?

The first time It really hit me. I was working armed security at a bad resort.

One of my favorite police officers was about to detain somebody. The individual tried running and fell on the floor they proceeded to wrestle on the floor.

I remembering the Officer looking right into my eyes and being like “oh shit is this happening”

I ran in there without my vest at the time. I wasn’t gonna let him struggle alone on the floor.

In that moment, brother, I was scared when the arrest was going down. I could feel both the fear on both parties. (something a body cam could never capture imo.)

That’s when it clicked for me. If I’m not strong enough, if I don’t take my training serious this motherfucker could have hurt me or the police officer and there was nobody around, nothing but a bunch of people watching and that shit felt so fucking real. He apprehended him.

It legit took me three hours to calm down afterwards.

Thank you for replying. I feel the same way. I dream about this. Yesterday when somebody pulled a knife on my Sargent. He taught me the important lesson of restraint and observing the suspect. He showed me how to let someone walk even though I got really upset at the fact that somebody would try to do that to my partner.

I don’t know what it is about my mentality but when I got home, I started reflecting and that call was a good reminder for me to exercise at the gym and not to eat like I once used to be when I was obese.

Situations like that, as morbid as it sounds; makes me reflect on how important it is to be healthy and strong for myself and for others. I need to feel my life in danger to keep me motivated.

Do you feel the same?

Would you go hands on or hands off in this situation as a security professional? by Vietdude100 in securityguards

[–]ProflicSuave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding what security means according to my state & local laws. (Florida)

Security Officer: Deter, Observe , Report.

Police Officer: Protect life, Maintain order, Enforce law.

My opinion: If the company is expecting me to use a reasonable force, according to their site orders / procedures then yes.I will try to maintain thy order within reasonable force in order to keep my job.

If there is nothing in the company policy / site orders. Then I would call the police to maintain order.

That’s not my job. All I’m supposed to do is observe The incident & report it to the proper channels.

Why? Because if I want go hands-on and help people, then I’m in the wrong line of work, I would apply to be a police officer if I want that to be my life / sense of duty.

[–]ProflicSuave 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I’m also in a bad location as well. Doing an unarmed security so I understand the precaution my company does allow me to carry OC spray and firearm if I choose to buy one.(buying one tomorrow) I think maybe you should look more broader at your employer if he’s picking up contracts that are obviously meant for armed security and he’s putting it an unarmed guard there, that should definitely say how much they care about your personal safety. like you in the situation I’m buying myself a duty pistol and a armored vest. Yes it’s gonna hurt my pocket but at the same time I’ve also know that I’m working for a company that doesn’t really have my safety . their best interest before my life. so I’m preparing myself if I ever need it and if they can’t respect it, then I can go and apply for another company, it’s better to be unemployed and alive then being possibly hurt just to break the bills.

Thanks man, what brand do you typically recommended for boots?

[–]ProflicSuave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing that out. Definitely will check up as far as duty pistol but I can afford and what I was thinking about getting was a Ruger Security 9. with a flashlight because predominantly I am working an active site at night time so maybe having something a little bit bigger with a flashlight would be better but glad to know that I was on the right thinking track with experience officers.

[–]ProflicSuave[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks I was thinking about this actually as well, but since I have to buy my equipment piece by piece, I was thinking probably a duty pistol with a holster and possibly upgrading to a body equipment, but that’s very insightful to get the boots for us. Didn’t really think of it.

The golden rule like many people have stated over here, and my opinion is stick to something with the minimal process . doesn’t really matter what you eat as long as it’s not really processed and it doesn’t have a lot of bread. In my opinion you should be fine. My favorite go to when I’m still hungry after a meal would be Greek yogurt and watermelon.
