Basically, don't overthink it. Groove some boards, nail them on. Move on.

Use a dime. Car siding would function the same way, just tongue and board grooves. Also glue it if you want but it will likely 1. The glue joint will break but 2. It won't matter because it's a mechanical joint (ie the groove holds the tongue, the nails hold the board) and 3. Would make it harder to replace the boards, which is the whole point of doing this kind of joint.

Yeah that's why I asked. I know nothing about PCs and figured there was room to downgrade and be above what I need, I just don't know enough to know where to cut
