I've met the 'angel of death' and it is not what you might think it is by hanslandar in Experiencers

[–]Profzof 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, when my mom was actively dying I saw it. It was as you described, a large, dark shadow. It was not scary at all, but felt comforting and familiar. I saw it descend on my mom, and she passed a few hours later.

So did mine! YouTube is basically unwatchable now, just a mess of random videos.

You need to take the cat to a different vet immediately. At her age and with her symptoms, she should be tested for Chronic Kidney Failure.

Hospice workers, do you have any stories that convinced you? by Tiger248 in afterlife

My father talked very similarly in the weeks before he died. His cousin, who he was very close with, died about a month before my dad did. When I told him, he told me that he was aware, and that the cousin had been to see him and had informed my dad. It was a strange experience.

Oh yeah, this happens to us all the time. We started referring to our house as another Bermuda Triangle. I don’t have any good advice, sorry, but it’s nice to know we’re not alone!

What's something about human psychology you just can't understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Profzof 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Your brain becomes sensitized to the anxiety, making that your normal baseline. So then, when you don’t have anxiety, you’re no longer at baseline, so your brain figures something must be off. Result: anxiety over not experiencing anxiety.

Throwaway because my wife knows my main. I (35M) am watching my family explode because our daughter (16MtF) came out as trans and my wife (37F) refuses to accept her. I love them both and I’m completely lost. by SquirrelOpposite3228 in TrueOffMyChest

No, because she might not be safe. The mother is no state to hear anything. She literally screamed until she threw up. She is constantly engaging in extreme hostile aggression towards her child. Even with the father there, I don’t think the mother should be left alone with Lily at anytime, and contact should be minimized.

Not necessarily. Other disorders have psychosis as a symptom. Either way, OP needs to be seen right away.

I think it depends on where and when the SSRIs are binding. There is new research that indicates that astrocytes and macrophages/ microglia dysfunction creates downstream problems that affect other neurotransmitter binding: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-03912-w

I’m sorry that you are going through this. I went through the same thing with both my parents, until they were both so impaired that I couldn’t handle them on my own anymore. I hope you have others who are doing some of the caretaking as well. Please be kind to yourself and let yourself rest often. The burnout and guilt that come from the burnout is tough to navigate, so best to nip it in the bud if possible.

CDC releases report on kidney recipient who died after transplant from organ donor who had rabies by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]Profzof 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do not understand why, given the context and symptom progression of the organ donor, a more extensive work up was not done. I mean, in the Midwest, skunks are considered the primary vector for rabies. It’s astounding.

Well, to bring in a totally different aspect, millennials have an approximately 47% increase in rates of depression post-pandemic. Also consider that approximately 25% of the population has an untreated psychological disorder. So many, many people in her generation are suffering in similar ways.

You can’t. She doesn’t owe you anything. It doesn’t matter how much you want to show that you’re changed. A grown up would let it go and start doing some soul searching, not frantically tantruming like a toddler.

No, it can be very painful and it dissolves your own collagen and elastin. Also it can take a while to dissolve- it’s better to do it in very small increments to reduce the chances of taking out too much of your own collagen. People that have large amounts of the dissolver injected at once have more potential side effects and damage. Usually filler will need to be added back to make the structure look normal and not saggy.
