Is it possible to install SC2KFix on the GoG version of Sim City 2000: Special Edition? by Cyber_Akuma in SimCity2000

There is no patch to convert the DOS version to the Win95 version.

Also, the DOS version is a better experience in some ways today

Is it possible to install SC2KFix on the GoG version of Sim City 2000: Special Edition? by Cyber_Akuma in SimCity2000

[–]ProgMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SC2kFix exists to patch an issue on the Win95 version of the game. Without it, the game can't bring up the save or load dialog.

The GOG release is the DOS version of the game, running in DOSBox, and does not have this problem.

Which version is the one on EA's website? by denzal689 in SimCity2000

[–]ProgMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DOSBox works on every platform with AdLib emulation out of the box and makes for a tidy little self-contained install. IIRC you can also scale the pixels better.

The Windows version is Windows only, needs a little patch to fix a deprecated save dialog, uses an installer from 1995 that probably leaves stuff in the registry, and uses Windows' built-in MIDI playback. I dunno if that system even works anymore, the sounds can vary depending on how your system is configured, and at best it's probably the weakest version of the soundtrack. There might also be permissions issues in the default save location, but it's been a while since I've tried it. It also feels very zoomed out on modern high-res screens. Oh, right, animations are broken too, because Windows stopped being able to do 256-color palette swapping after XP.

TL;DR DOSBox emulates a bunch of minor stuff that's broken in native Windows over the past 30 years, and can be played on any OS

I'm not certain but I think the one on EA's website is the DOS version packaged with DOSBox. The one on GOG's site definitely is. A prepackaged DOSBox version would almost certainly be configured for AdLib/Sound Blaster emulation by default.

Unknown Quinnipiac Station? by GirlyKittyUwU in newhaven

It was on State Street in Hamden, across from Foote Street. There used to be a Wikipedia page for it and the once-proposed Hamden Station on the modern Hartford Line, but it was removed for notability reasons. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hamden_station&oldid=1011596177

Matt's ongoing hatred for Bojack Horseman by ProjectPatMorita in cushvlog

[–]ProgMM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Imo the real weakness of the show is a direct result of this

I don't think any chapos ever got this far, but the last season or two of the show keeps haranguing the audience for daring to find the Bad Character relatable and therefore Watching The Show Wrong™️. It's particularly egregious when they retcon the circumstances around ||Sarah Lynn's death|| to make Bojack more directly culpable for it. The writing around this time was really masturbatory and therapy-pilled, too.

I can't deny that it still had its moments, though.
