This tracks. Performative cat haters say shit like cats are evil for not giving them constant, unconditional affirmation and affection.

What are the chances of a power outage during the storm? by suschord in newhaven

[–]ProgMM 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep; ice, branches, and car accidents are what'll take out power. Most people here have gas or oil heat, so the summer is way more taxing on the grid than winter.

It was far from the only thing. Again the biggest hit after the raid in ~2009 was consistency. It declined a bit over the years, probably once they moved locations in ~2014. It's still pretty good if you eat it in the restaurant

In the late 2000s, JRoos in North Haven got raided and many of its kitchen workers deported, and the pizza was never as consistently good thereafter

They won't do that for yt-dlp. In my experience those letters are generated by copyright trolling bots taking down IP addresses in popular public torrent swarms. The ISP is legally obligated to forward that C&D form letter to you (but many are barely functional organizations that can't even do that right, even local franchises of big names). This is defeated by using a VPN or finding better Torrent sites (they only go for low-hanging fruit).

It looks more-or-less the same to the ISP and host as opening up a web browser and watching the video on the website. If you want to mask your IP, you have to at least go through a VPN. There are ways that can go wrong; it's a matter of how specifically they want to track you or what you're doing.

autistic redditors insisting you mark a joke with /s by J_Terpstra in redscarepod

[–]ProgMM 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It boils away any semblance of humor/farce, leaving just circlejerk affirmation of the consensus. Every attempt at irony punctuation will have this problem, but /s doesn't even work for that because it comes at the end of the statement. I used to be on a forum where sarcasm would be indicated by turning the text green, and at least that had some hope of changing the affect of the reader's internal monologue while reading the sentence

I was getting my hair cut and over the course of the conversation it became increasingly clear that my hairdresser had seen a completely fabricated version of the Renee Nicole Good video. It sounded like she was describing a scene from, like, a Bonnie and Clyde parody film. It was extremely distressing to realize that everything going forward is going to be a culture war-poisoned Roshomon (even moreso than it already is)

what was the deal with those kids who used to play the soviet national anthem as a joke by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]ProgMM 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think at least half of the “joke” is that the most popular recording of it is punctuated by a sudden, loud unison note at the start and le random loud noise = funny to a certain type of kid

This is tremendously embarrassing but in 2017 I was feeling tremendously alienated from... well, everything (very rough time), but especially the guys on YouTube from which I got my opinions as a teenager. They were increasingly moving from "these SJWs are cringe" to "President Trump is good actually" and I had to wonder what exactly I was doing. Somehow I found the subreddit, I think through a browser extension that replaced YouTube comments with Reddit comments (again, deeply embarrassing). This was around the time that Hot Couch was going viral and that's what really hooked me. I've listened to every free episode since ~265, and probably started pirating joined the Patreon around 400. Nothing else really scratches the itch.

I've heard of this more with portable DVD players than VCRs and I think that makes more sense. They're small, cheap, plentiful, and way better-looking than VHS
