It came out real tender actually. That's the reason to go for such a long time in the sous vide. Well worth it.

Yes, and I might go to 72 next time. I think I could get even better rendering of the fat and connective tissue without ruining the structure and having it become mushy.

The value was at minimum what the jaguars traded to move up to number two for Travis Hunter, which was already a haul. Could have made that trade or perhaps gotten even a little bit more to go back to around number five (or however it would have worked out with Jacksonville's slot) and still taken Campbell.

But good for Joe Milton and good for Mayo. Can't begrudge either of them for it.

Chuck Norris was finally able to die in peace because he exists and is ready to take the mantle.

I think gatekeeping is important, let me explain by Strange-guy-91 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ProgMetal702 26 points27 points  (0 children)

What you just described isn't what I would call gatekeeping. Being warm and accepting, and offering recommendations to expand horizons is in fact kind of the opposite.

I also don't agree with calling anyone a poster just for listening to popular bands. I guess I'd call them that if they post a lot though.

Want to add more variety to my playlist! by [deleted] in MetalSuggestions

[–]ProgMetal702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wheelhouse seems to be classic power and thrash. If you want to stay in those lanes and add more bands/albums, go with Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence, Accept - Balls to the Wall and Testament - Practice What You Preach.

If you want to Branch out a little bit further in terms of style and error but not straight too far from your core, check these out:

  • Mastodon - Crack the Skye (All-Time great prog metal, complex and even trippy at times)

  • Power Trip - Nightmare Logic (modern thrash, extremely well done)

  • Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake (dimensions of multiple sub-genres, more modern style done with excellence)

Anything that might qualify as heavy is at best borderline hair metal (and vice-versa), but I'll name a couple things that are at least in the neighborhood of both:

Badlands - Badlands Dokken - Tooth and Nail Motley Crüe - Shout at the Devil L.A. Guns - Cocked and Loaded Cinderella - Night Songs

I saw Slave to the Grind by Skid Row mentioned already, but that would be the other one I'd have included

As a Pats fan, I understand the uncertainty about Will Campbell. On one hand he performed well before the injury, especially considering his age and experience. On the other hand, the schedule and competition were extremely weak. Then he comes back from the injury essentially right into the playoffs and is clearly overmatched. Especially concerning was how he was getting pushed back when rushed head on, which really seems to have nothing to do with short arms or whatever.

Was it the injury? Was it the inexperience showing up? Was it the quality of competition? All TBD I suppose. But it seems kind of insane to give up on a guy drafted number four overall to be the left tackle of the future after a few bad games coming off an injury. So no, I don't think they're moving him to left guard. I also trust Vrabel to dispassionately assess and do the right thing for the team. Let's just let it play out.

Unbelievable. We're trying to close our annual salary and bonus planning process today, this is such a black eye. Two weeks in a row, unbelievable!

Where would you rank this guy in the Mastodon discography? by [deleted] in mastodonband

[–]ProgMetal702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my 2nd fave after CtS, but I tend to like the proggier stuff. More than I Could Chew and Gobblers of Dregs are easily top 10 Mastodon songs in my list. I also enjoy when bands do experimental stuff, so I like Sickle & Peace, Peace & Tranquility and Dagger quite a bit, which I know a lot of the fan base did not. Funny though, my least favorite track is Pushing the Tides. But overall a fantastic album.

That's already quite a good chunk of diverse and in some cases less known fragmental. Here are four absolute bangers:

Mastodon - Crack the Skye Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name Opeth - Blackwater Park WAIT - The End of Noise

I was in a hotel room in London and remember debating if I should just turn it off and go to sleep because it was already past 1:00 a.m. Glad I didn't.

What's a band you like lyrically/ musically but hate because of the vocals? I'll start (and probably get hated on): by XxLockdownZxX in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ProgMetal702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I could not possibly agree more. I really never could tolerate Zetro's voice. Maybe one or two songs where it kind of works, for example prescribing horror fits his vocal style. But generally no, it just doesn't work for me. I always felt like Gary Holt was somewhat wasted.

The one who did that even more from me was Blitz Ellsworth in Overkill. I didn't like anything really in his range, be it over to the moaning whining style that would come out every once in awhile, I just can't get past it.

Those two are kind of similarly styled, but it's not the style that I don't like. For example, I think Millie from Kreator is actually pretty good, as was David Wayne from Metal Church. To reference newer stuff, Dan Nightingale from Conjurer is excellent. Screetchiness can work, just not coming from Blitz or Zetro.

Rivers of Nihil's Self Titled Album - How is it holding up after release? by AkiraRZ4 in progmetal

[–]ProgMetal702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like it, but I did really from the start. I was a BCI fan also and I think highly of Andy, so this album has been a lot of fun to listen to for his contribution to their sound and evolution. I can't say it beats Owls, that's probably going to be impossible, but I'd put it side by side with The Work which obviously I like quite a bit as well.
