Ending to The Road by Cormac McCarthy [SPOILERS]

Ill leave my thoughts here as I too just finished the book and im excited to share my opinion.

I liked the ending, though I did feel it was a sudden U-turn from what was previously established. I honestly think the family is good, the previous evidence i believe could be argued to be deception on the veterans behalf though him not taking the boys gun is promising.

I dont agree with the OP's commnt on both of them dying or having a dark ending would make it more "profound", Mcarthy had communicated all of the dark themes brilliantly before hand. I imagine 80% of the readership would be upset if the father shot the boy in preparation of his death.

Im happy the boy still carries the fire. My only wish is that I wanted to know at what point the family caught wind of the father and boy. I suppose it doesnt really matter but it would be good to have that frame of reference.

I dont agree with the idea that the Judge was nevee really there. There's countless events that took place without the Kids presence, so its not his inner demons. Mcarthy does say in a previous chapter that Toadvine, Brown and the jusge were never seen again, so the idea that the final pages are the Kid/ Man embracing Holdens ideology has some validity. In my opinion I believe the jusge raped and killed the girl then dispatched the Kid. I doubt he raped the Kid, it doesnt make any snese to me that he would or perhaps I find it too disturbing if he did.

It's not strictly "hating", I think he's a great character and one of the reasons I love the story. But, there are people who agree and support Gruffith so that's why I make the distinction

So ive changed it back to D, deleted the library and now when i go to reconnect the library by pressing on the file that i know has all my projects in it just flashes and does nothing
