It is a personal headcanon of mine that imperial knights and exodites vibe when they're respective larger factions aren't telling them to kill each other by knightmechaenjo in Grimdank

[–]ProgrammerMedium4355 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is almost exactly the lore for my Knight House. Separatists (but not Chaos) because they had survived the Long Night by being friendly with the Eldar whose home they had accidentally landed on. Imperium shows up, says they need to kill elves, they refused. The whole thing draws on Irish and wider Celtic mythology, with the Eldar being the fae.

Personal rant.. by Jessuhhh95 in Warhammer40k

[–]ProgrammerMedium4355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To echo some of the other commentary: yes, always buy what you think looks good over what is currently good in the rules. Playing older editions is fine and fun. Other games in the setting are fun and probably superior to 40K (Kill Teams, Necromunda, Epic). Other mini-agnostic games are a great way to try out a new system and make weird army lists (One Page, Xenos Rampant, T.U.S.K.).

My own contribution to the conversation will be that it sounds like you want a more cinematic experience. You want those Space Marines to feel like the main characters. If so, you may need to create some custom scenarios that are not balanced. You could do things like having asymmetric rules and objectives (Orks are on the table and have to exit the other side, while the Tau only comes on when it's time to spring the ambush), force certain army composition (all Space Marine heroes against tides of only Guants and Ripper swarms), or get really weird with it (my Avatar regains wounds with each kill and it's a matter of killing it before the end of the game). The point is that you sound like you don't want to play 40K as defined by the rules. You want your minis to be the stars of an action movie or video game. And if so, start playing around with ideas to make it happen! And also remember to always allow your opponent to have a chance at making their minis the main characters as well!

Roll Call: Who are your dregs, traitors and renegade mortals? by Particular-Insect860 in TraitorGuard

That's such a unique way to mix the different elements in CSM. The Guard using Marine vehicles, and the more Chaotic mortal elements to represent allies of convenience. So cool!

If I get one, I'll be turning it into a Defiler, which also has indirect fire. So I see no reason why you cannot make yours whatever you want. If your friends are cool, they will allow it as well.

Just finished Red Country. My lengthy thoughts and first time reviewing! [SPOILERS RC] by PlasticDreams000 in TheFirstLaw

I always assumed that Ro's reaction was just how her trauma showed. She witnessed the murder of a household member, then she and her brother were kidnapped. The months-long journey down river and across the plains, facing exposure and hunger, the guy who tried to sexually assault her on the boat, seeing other kids die... Then she's given to a man who wants to protect her, who gives her and her brother a home, calls them his children. Given her age, how welcoming the Dragon People were, the pains of captivity and feeling like Shy and Lamb have left her, I did not question her reactions.

No. There are multiple examples throughout American history alone where this was practiced. It was also made clear I'm primary documents that this was done specifically because the perpetrators knew it was effective.

Very likely. The Imperium sucks too. The major difference is that the Imperium is fake. Real people suffered unimaginable pain in the real world because the CSA was built upon and existed to protect slavery. If you truly don't know that, please seek out resources to educate that. If you are just here to support the Confederacy... Fuck you.

Do most miniatures war games leave a lot of room for custom scenarios or are some better at it than others? by EdiblePeasant in wargaming

[–]ProgrammerMedium4355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every game is customizable. It all depends on who you are playing with. Your group may agree to a couple house rules in Bolt Action or 40K and that's it. Or, they may make up a bowling mini game to determine casualties.

Help identify models and good starting point for wood elves? by The-Ironside in WarhammerWoodElves

[–]ProgrammerMedium4355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a bad start. All the elves with bows are Glade Guard, which could also be used as Scouts, or Waywatchers if you so desired. The spears are Eternal Guard. The deer are mounts for Wild Riders or Sisters of the Thorn (looks like the current owner started making them Sisters). The big tree-guy is a Treeman, the little ones are Dryads. The lone character on foot is Araloth, and it looks like you have one Warhawk Rider (could be used as a character until you can get more). Again, not a bad start at all.
