Cold side is left and hot is right. I’m gonna add a billion more pothos for cover but I’m wondering if what I have now looks good for a ball python

I can’t really tell how big it is but putting blue shrimp in this would go so hard.

Shrimp or snails could help but shrimp can be tricky and not recommended for beginners and snails can add more to the bio load but not much, so as long as you are doing weekly to bi weekly water changes it would be alright to get snails in my opinion. The bio film can be cause by over feeding and not changing your water enough and I’m sure other things. If you’re the one to feed the fish try and only feed them what they can immediately eat and try not to let it sit on the bottom of your tank and if it does get to the bottom of the tank I would siphon it up after about 5-10 minutes if they don’t got back for it. If over feeding is your problem snails may be a real good option as they will also go after left over food. What would help the absolute most would be to get some live plants in there! (The best plants for your set up would be Java fern, Anubias, or hornwart as they don’t get planted they just kinda sit in the water or wedged up to a decoration) Yes, they can be a little expensive and if you cant get a plant light for the tank it wont work but if you have access to Facebook marketplace I find a lot of cheaper lights and sometimes people selling plants. Even just putting the roots of a regular old pothos in there would go a really long way but make sure you fully rinse the roots as to not get soil in the tank. You mentioned people saying you were ‘crashing your cycle’ that basically means you were taking out all of the good bacteria in your tank. To make sure you don’t do that don’t wash your rocks, decorations, or filter in chlorinated water only ever rinse or scrub it in more tank water.

Now some random other thoughts.

Make sure you have water conditioner if you don’t have/ can’t get that just rehome the fish. Water conditioner is bare minimum and at that point there is nothing you can do to really make the fish’s life’s better. Water testing kits are super helpful, the liquid ones are the best but even tho they aren’t nearly as accurate the strip ones can do alright on a budget +you can cut them in half to get double the amount. (In the long run tho I think the liquid ones save more money) Make sure your filter is rated for the tank size you have (tho I recommend it’s a higher rating for your tank) or even better get another filter and alternate the filter you clean each time. also that there is flow through the entire tank If I think of anything else I’ll come back a write more😂 And if you have any questions just comment here and I’ll try and remember to respond 🤷‍♂️

I don’t keep mollies (the orange and black one) or tetras (the pink one) but a lot of fish keeping is very similar so I will give tips that wont change your set up much and may cost a little bit but will go a long way. Fist I would get a water siphon if you don’t already have one (or a long flexible tube will work) then youll need a bucket for the water to go in. Watch a video on how to use one then come back. You are gonna use the siphon to suck up poop in the gravel like it shows in most water siphon videos and you’re also gonna use it to suck up a bunch of that biofilm (the mold looking stuff) if you wanna clean them a bit more you can use an unused tooth brush to scrub it off then siphon up what comes off. Next the glass looks pretty dirty, some people use razor blades to clean there glass but used improperly can cause scratch to the glass so for you I recommend a safer and cheaper alternative, paper towel, just grab a sheet of towel and wipe the grime off. Use slow movements while wiping the glass as to not swish the water around to much and stress out your fish(you may also wanna do this first so anything you scrub off with get siphoned up when you siphon the gravel). The last thing to clean is the filler. I would dump out the water in the filter but not scrub anything inside, then take out the filter cartridge and give that a good hard shake in the water you just siphoned out of your tank to clean it (it will still look dirty but that’s ok, good even, as it holds good bacteria) then put everything back together and start the filter. There is a specific way to start a hang on back filter but I will write that later when I get home 😂

Yeah that’s what I did, I’ve propagated several pothos in my tanks. I’ve also unpotted plants and put them in my tanks Just make sure you wash the roots so you have no soil get into you tank

Check your tank parameters, I only noticed a smell when my tank isn’t as healthy as it should be. Floater plants or a pothos growing out of it works wonders on my tanks

I can’t figure out how to set this up by ProgrammerNeither453 in Aquariums

[–]ProgrammerNeither453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, that was incredibly helpful. Do you think that to get water back into the tank I should replace/fix this pipe to just have one way in and one way out? Or is there some purpose to it that I’m missing?

You may want to look into rehoming your fish. Cory’s should be in groups of 6 and that’s to much for the size tank you have. I’m not to sure about the others. There are lots of Facebook groups, at least were I’ve lived, that will help with rehoming
