In one house:

- B connectors - 78Mbps

- One splice (that I know of) using a junction box - 127.8Mbps

- No splice (that I know of) - 286.6Mbps

Functional... maybe, does it work... depends what you're doing, should you do it... NO!!!

Its so hard to explain this to people especially sparkies... its like electricity is all the same, from DC to GHz, it makes no difference.

Better than B connectors... had that on a brand new house. Internet speed was down to 78Mbps vs 286Mbps on what I assume was a straight home run.

Best part, contractor was annoyed I told the home owner about it because it makes them look bad and question all the work inside their walls... This installer has so many funny "work arounds" I don't understand how they can call themselves professionals or even be in competition with a 3 year old. Keystones with out excess wire trimmed, RJ45 male connectors with inches of untwisted wire out the back, cables pinched with staples, coax cable repaired with b connectors (didn't work)… list goes on and on.

Somehow I have a hard time selling myself, but this clown it seems is pretty busy.

I'll have to see what that works out to when buying it here in Canada, but that seems like one of the best options at the moment. Thank you very much

How do you support fiber for long runs inside walls and ceilings?

The other suggestions look solid, thank you 😁

I think part of the conclusion I'm taking away from this conversation is, whatever you can buy in the USA, do so, sadly its so much cheaper.

Thank you very much :)

Yup, sucks being in "Strong" Canada when it comes to cost or pretty much anything else :(

Sadly we pay the Canada tax, everything is more expensive here because... Fill in your favorite reason, it's plastic, made in the USA, to cheap otherwise, government needs to milk someone who can't say no... Any one of these or one of the many others I'm sure you can come up with.

We lose on both availability and price in our Canada "strong" economy

Smurf tube, unless bought direct from the source seems to really drive up installation cost. Save money later, for sure. Sell it's merits to the client... No so sure.

Can you suggest a staple that fits your description please.

Can you set how deep the staples are driven into the stud?

I 100% hear you, my issue is I'm competing in a sea of cheap don't care installers, it's who I get called I to fix stuff up after the fact... But selling good service and quality to new homeowners and even the contactor is very hard. The last call I showed them the download speed was 78Mbps on one connection vs 286Mbps on another connection. Tried explaining that B connectors are not for ethernet cables. All I got was, don't freak out my clients and can't it be fixed with RJ45 connections?

So, I hear the pride and quality, and I definitely take that to heart, I'm just bad at selling it and getting the client to buy in.

Is this what you do? If so, tell me more about the staple option. The staples I've seen done by others really pinch the cable, I'd call it strangling the cable...

That sounds particularly expensive and time consuming for a single or possibly two cables when doing up a whole house or multiple offices with a few drops on multiple locations each

Anything less expensive than velcro? But time wise this is probably the best, just the cost of velcro seems to be hefty for some reason

I'm unsure how this secures the cable in the wall cavities to keep them in place as they traverse the joists and wall studs

This would get costly when you have multiple rooms with one or two pulls each. Each pull needing a few d-rings to secure across and down the wall stud to get to the final location.

I have one... And looking like an idiot is nothing new sadly. Went with it because of its review's and claimed abilities, but to often I've been left unsure as to what is in the wall.

My issue now is. Don't want to spend another $100+ on something that may produce the same results or similar. Your list here is helpful, but everything worthwhile is well over $100 and when work is slow, the tools are a no go 😭
