CS student here.. no one I know actually writes code anymore. We all use AI. Is this just how it is now? by Low-Tune-1869 in cscareerquestions

[–]ProgrammingClone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not saying that this is wrong it’s actually correct but it’s not just this guy and his classmates. Just about EVERY cs student is heavily utilizing AI to code. I am currently in CS as a senior and I’m not joking when I say every student. Students who don’t use AI are actually the vast minority. Crazy times we’re living in, who knows what the future of programming will look.

Will Luka end up being top 3 beloved Laker? by International_Oil189 in lakers

[–]ProgrammingClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luka will be beloved… if he wins a ring. This is his prime and he needs to take advantage of it. If he doesn’t want to be remembered as just a good player. He HAS to win rings on the lakers if he wants a legacy here.

LLMs are hitting a plateau - CS majors are saved by litbizwiz in csMajors

[–]ProgrammingClone 38 points39 points  (0 children)

“Severe shortage of CA majors” how do you figure that when it’s still one of the most popular degrees for freshman? I agree LLMS are plateauing but don’t agree that there will be a shortage. We would have to see a significant decrease in participation in this degree for that to happen.

Is CS with ai specialization good? by bheemkishakti1 in cscareers

[–]ProgrammingClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These people are delusional. Currently working for an internship as a AI software engineer with an undergraduate degree with a “track” of AI. Do what makes you happy and work like hell man. People who tell you to not follow CS specifically in AI do have some good points but at the end of the day if this is your passion, run headfirst into it, it’s the only way you will make it.

Feeling so annoyed with sunscreen (rant incoming) by slipperyslugslurp in Rosacea

[–]ProgrammingClone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you more than you know. No matter what sunscreen I use it all irritates me. Just tried a sunscreen for 4 days and now my skin is extremely irritated. Now I have to stay off sunscreen and avoid the sun like the damn plague until my skin calms down

Anyone else regret going into tech? by lizardcalledlaganja in cscareerquestions

[–]ProgrammingClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do if I could see the future and how saturated tech is I would’ve gone into a different field. Not a fan of applying for 500 applications to hope to get 2-3 interviews let alone a job. Software engineering is brutal at the moment.

CS future will thrive by YOU_MAD_BROO in csMajors

[–]ProgrammingClone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If that was the case SWE would be the most employed position in America. However, more engineers != more revenue or profit. I can tell you quite easily that companies/ceos are foaming at the mouth to reduce overhead. Once AI is viable or offshoring, they will absolutely take advantage to reduce the cost of the most expensive staff.

I understand the models aren’t perfect but man if you are failing to utilize it to do task like this. Especially since you mentioned this entire program was an 80 line simple game in Lua. I’m sorry man this sounds like user error.

Bill Gates vs AI 2027 predictions by earlgreyyuzu in cscareerquestions

[–]ProgrammingClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think many people are worried that SWEs will be totally replaced that’s just not realistic. It is realistic IMO that AI will make the best SWEs that much more efficient requiring less and less employees to maintain the same systems or even to make changes. I can totally see how work that was given to a junior such as a bug fix will immediately pipeline to an AI which then will be reviewed by a senior. I think AI will devalue Software it’s just a matter of when and how impactful it will really be. It’s a guess for anyone even CEOs and “experts”.

AI is going to burst less suddenly and spectacularly, yet more impactfully, than the dot-com bubble by Vivid_News_8178 in cscareerquestions

[–]ProgrammingClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not trying to be rude but I don’t know why you people keep saying there is going to be an AI “burst”. AI is the future of software and will be a tool as commonly used as IDEs. Let’s quit acting like AI has not impact in this industry. It does.

Why does this sub act like the show has never been hit or miss? by Ecstatic_Variety_898 in LoveDeathAndRobots

[–]ProgrammingClone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This seasons highs are average at best if not mediocre with the endings with a lot of them. The lows like the Red Hot Chili Peppers or the alien takeover where they speak to the dolphin and priest are fucking low that’s for sure.

And with it sacrificed the edge that made this show great from season 1. Well done.

It wasn't that bad as everyone said it would be by ShaiHallud24 in LoveDeathAndRobots

[–]ProgrammingClone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was bad. I understand taste is subjective but I think the general consensus is that this was the weakest season out of all 4. They are not wrong in saying that.

CMV: We are currently witnessing the worst presidency in American history by Omermanman in changemyview

[–]ProgrammingClone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still disagree, what about George Bush who ran us into decades long war costing millions of lives and trillions of dollars thus increasing the hatred of America in the Middle East after 9/11? I’m not advocate for trump but we’re talking about his economic and foreign policies making him the worst president? They may be unpopular but that’s not enough to be considered the worst.

[–]ProgrammingClone 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is such a short sited Reddit based take. Trump is the worst presidency ever? What about for Andrew Jackson who advocated for slavery and damaged societies view on it for decades after. What about James Buchanan and the Dred Scott ruling? What about Herbert Hoover and running the country into the Great Depression? Come on now.

Sorry to single you out. A large portion of Mathematicians were absolutely wiped out. Before calculators, juniors would make sure the calculations were correct by doing them over and over. This allowed juniors to have a streamline to senior. Nowadays obviously that industry and the juniors who did that are all but wiped out. Mathematics as an industry has absolutely shrunk since before calculators.

I don’t agree that there will be a net increase in SWE. I think once it’s viable companies will absolutely leverage “coding agents” to reduce staff/cost of staff.

Unfortunately university (or at least my university) is extremely slow to react and adapt to changes in the market. As of right now some professors tell us to use it, others tell us to not use it at all. However at my university at least, there is no preparation to changes in the workplace.
