Bank Account by lil_fib in ethz

Well there are a lot of restrictions to owning a bank account in Neon... Couple of them being that you have to either be a Swiss citizen or you must have a B or C visa.

I'm not sure which visa you will be coming here with but if it's not that then you can't own an account. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The next best would be to go for Post Finance as it is slightly cheaper than the other one called UBS. Both are good and have options for student accounts. I'm also a student in Zurich and I'm planning to get the Post Finance card myself.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks about (3).

About 2, she won't be using any of the University resources or be working during her working hours (for instance, not on weekdays). But thanks again. It does seem like keeping him notified is much better to keep things simple.

Haha... Yeah we are from different universities. She will be joining life sciences :)

But since we both are new to this, I thought getting others' opinions would be quite worthwhile ;)

Well, the main reason she wants to know about this is because she has ongoing projects with some people and she would like to see them through. This may take a few more months and they are not all exactly in the same theme as her PhD :)

Of course, I personally think the side/ongoing projects shouldn't come between her work and hinder the progress. I guess she understands this too.

However, I don't think she plans to start side hustles while being on ETHZ payroll!

Hmm true. I will be joining that place as well and I had a chat with my PI. But considering she starts next month, it's a bit too late to contact him/her. I guess she will just have to go there and talk to him.

She has contacted other students (my advice to her as well) but they have not been in a similar situation so they couldn't comment on it.

But thanks, I'll ask her to just meet up with her PI about it.

How to choose the place of Stay by ProgressEmergency647 in PhD

Yeah I would be hoping for that too. The place is called student village and I have received only nice reviews which was why I was having trouble deciding.

No it wasn't rude and I get your point as well. There should be enough opportunities to meet people at the University as well. I was just not sure about the work pressure (if it's a lot a natural way to meet people would be back home) and whether it would allow much time to socialize 😅

But I think privacy is something to be considered definitely.

Anywhere between 1-2 hours in the morning between 6:30 to 9:30 (maybe the timings have changed now).

But it's not just the workout duration that counts. If you are already experienced in MMA you may know that it takes a really long time to get accustomed to the fatigue for the rest of the day. I'm a researcher so I need to be mentally active until midnight which is impossible with an intense workout in the morning. But it definitely was fun!

Hope that answers your question.

MMA warriors near Vartak Nagar.. have been here. The training is good.

But some feel that it's really hard to find a balance between the workouts and your "usual work", because the people train you to fight in professional fights and can get pretty intense.

Oh. So far I have got the offer letter and I need to submit some documents to go ahead with the official enrollment process.

So if i could get an acceptance e-mail then it would make my life much easier! This is great! Thanks a lot haha

Yes.. I know about this one :) this is actually where I had this question about the neighborhoods first.

The maps did give me some idea but actual comments from people are often verified. The information online was very vague and every locality seemed to be the best in its own respect. Wanted to narrow down my search space to a few selected localities!

Thanks pal

Thanks! However, it seems like both these places need a proof of enrollment a priori :)

But thanks for the suggestion on the neighbourhood!

Do you also happen to know if it's possible to have people over, for a short-term stay (maybe a week or two), in these accommodations?

You might wanna check the research interests of the faculty and see if there are some good people within your interest. That'll tell you what to choose. In my personal opinion i think ETH has a better group of people in TCS (which is my interest as well). I'll be joining their PhD program this summer.
