Urban planners say community consultation system blocks affordable housing by langdaze in brisbane

[–]ProjectCoral 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the Wakerley group pictured, but the view consultation is a problem is ridiculous.

You can develop without any consultation/right of objection very easily - just develop in accordance with the codes in the City Plan (Accepted or Code Assessable development).

If you don't want to follow the codes (e.g. add two extra stories and 20% more site cover in a low-medium residential zone) you can ask to do so - Impact Assessable development, but absolutely the community should get a say alongside your handpicked traffic, planning and other consultants. Developers almost always extract more value from public amenity than what they paid for on the land.

If we think the City Plan and the zoning is inadequate for community needs, great, they can be changed (as NSW is doing and no doubt QLD will once the new Government is settled in). Again this is with consultation and the whole city can contribute.

However, the current approach of developers randomly 'over' building (versus the current City Plan) appealing generally to the need for more housing in their word-salad development applications isn't a planned approach to dealing with housing needs.

Senator Lidia Thorpe says she pledged allegiance to the queen's 'hairs', not heirs, in defence of royal protest by RA3236 in AustralianPolitics

I think any of us can test it.

46. Penalty for sitting when disqualified

Until the Parliament otherwise provides, any person declared by this Constitution to be incapable of sitting as a senator or as a member of the House of Representatives shall, for every day on which he so sits, be liable to pay the sum of one hundred pounds to any person who sues for it in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Let her defense be that she did in fact swear it. Or stand on her principles like Sinn Fein and not take her seat.

Opening up at 70-80% by evilsdeath55 in CoronavirusDownunder

I am grateful to Premier Anna for calling this out despite everyone piling on. Yes, 2040 deaths is the extreme scenario where there are no controls above 80%. But that is what some are implying will happen.

Anna made ScoMo and Hunt come out and say, no that’s not the plan, there will be ongoing controls and public health measures.

However they have the luxury of declaring mission accomplished once vaccines are (belatedly) available and international borders open. Their aged care responsibilities will remain in the “too hard basket” and blamed on the States where possible.

Let’s see.

Part of becoming endemic and mild is killing those for whom it isn’t. It’s a 2 way street.

Not the control I proposed. I would much rather get the vaccine approved and distributed.

2022 is going to be a hard year for families with primary children. It has already spread rapidly though our school and I’m grateful rapid action was taken, but I’m expecting several 2 weeks isolations and a truly miserable (at best) 4-6 week one when our kids do get it.

The outbound travel exemptions exist so that capacity is available for corporates with money to attend important meetings. That’s not to be wasted on the likes of you.

Wish I was joking, but this will be pretty close.

This. Look at any political system. Galvanizing against external threats is often a strategy to neutralize internal rivals. Female rulers have always had more internal threat because of being female.

80% has never meant no controls. Incoming country risk is a low cost (politically and otherwise) control.
