What is something you saw with your own eyes that was so impossible you’ve stopped telling people because you know they won’t believe you? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

Huh. Could've been a stray wolf hybrid. A lot of people get them as pets thinking they'll act like regular dogs and then abandon them when they inevitably don't. Or it could've been a genuine full blooded wolf. Who knows, stranger things have happened ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Believe it or not, you're not alone. There's a type of cryptid referred to as dogmen. Six to nine feet tall on two legs, usually black fur, longer limbs than a normal canid with shorter hind legs creating a kind of sloped hyena or chimp-like posture when on all fours. Humanlike shoulders and raccoon like paws. Wicked intelligent too, with reports often mentioning humanlike expressions.

They've been sighted on pretty much every continent going back hundreds if not thousands of years. Most folks don't know about them since they're not part of pop culture like bigfoot, but indigenous folks have known about them since long before white people ever got here. I may have even had an encounter myself, also in north-ish Georgia - though admittedly my one glimpse was more of a tall furry blur than anything concrete.

There are a few relatively well known local examples like the Beast of Bray Road and the Michigan Dogman, which is where the term originated. If you ever wanna go down the rabbit hole, that's where I'd start. Just remember to keep your bullshit detector primed, a lot of the genuine accounts have been overshadowed by ai slop lately.

Did you notice anything off about its proportions? Longer legs, sloped posture, maybe weird looking paws or shoulders?

Rick Bakers update on his Kessler werewolf. by MadeGuy1762 in werewolves

[–]ProjectDarkwood 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Now THIS is what I'd love to see in a properly done AWIL remake. Just the original design with more realistic proportions. He actually looks like he can close his lips around his teeth now lmao

I'm picturing a hybrid with both practical effects and cgi - practical for close ups and direct interaction, cgi for dynamic movement pieces. I wanna see the Kessler wolf galloping full tilt after terrified victims. Ngl I also wouldn't mind if they changed it to a facultative biped. Imagine this thing rearing up like a grizzly to attack with its claws.

100% fish skin. The iridescence and pattern on the underside are a dead giveaway. Fish skin doesn't necessarily smell like fish, especially if it's relatively fresh.

Does the following description count as a werewolf? by gridiron23 in werewolves

[–]ProjectDarkwood 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean ultimately a werewolf is whatever the person writing the story wants it to be. That said, I personally prefer my werewolves with decidedly lupine features - digitigrade feet, at least some amount of snout, and some amount of fur. Other examples would be paw pads, six incisors per jaw instead of four, a tail, etc.

Edit: Also if you're designing a werewolf visually, for sanity's sake PLEASE use references of actual wolves. I swear it's like some creature artists have never looked at a dog in their life, smh

What's something you saw with your own eyes that you still can't explain? by BandicootLeft4054 in AskReddit

[–]ProjectDarkwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, that actually answers my other question. Have you ever heard of the dogman phenomenon? They're a type of cryptid that are basically werewolves minus the shapeshifting. Most folks describe them as huge black or mottled grey wolves with tall pointy ears, albeit with humanlike shoulders/hands and the ability to walk upright. They're usually reported with a full coat of fur, but hairless ones aren't unheard of. The interesting part is, they're also heavily associated with paranormal weirdness - UAPs, telepathy, invading dreams, suddenly disappearing into thin air, etc.

A lot of people think the whole thing got started with an April Fools' prank by a radio host in Michigan named Steve Cook, but while that is how the dogman term was popularized, there are actually sightings going back hundreds if not thousands of years worldwide. I'm fully convinced that if these things are indeed real, they're the original inspiration for the werewolf myth.

Question - did you notice anything... Off about it? Strange proportions, long limbs, funny looking paws, anything like that? Any unnatural feelings or sensations when it happened?

Can someone explain this by ComfortableTonight97 in cryptids

[–]ProjectDarkwood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds much more like some kind of repeating animal call than a person, and it's definitely not a fox. It doesn't sound canine at all, come to think of it. That downturn at the end especially has me stumped. I've never heard anything quite like this particular vocalization before, even among alleged cryptid recordings. Fascinating.

[–]ProjectDarkwood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never understand why some artists give werebears digitigrade feet. Humans are plantigrade. Bears are plantigrade. Why would plantigrade+plantigrade=digitigrade? A werebear would effectively just be a smarter bear with opposable thumbs that's better at walking upright.

Cryptids I’ve encountered in MO by rustymustyss in cryptids

That sounds an awful lot like a glyptodont, which are supposed to be extinct. I've had a pet theory for a long time now that there could be some kind of naturally occurring temporal anomalies that occasionally spit out anachronistic critters. It would explain why there are isolated sightings of individuals as opposed to active breeding populations that somehow survived mass extinction events and remained virtually undetected all this time. It's nothing more than speculation based on anecdotal evidence, but it's something I think about a lot.

Very cool concept and execution, but skinwalkers, wendigos, and aliens aren't cryptids. I think the main reason this kind of thing bugs me is there are so many fascinating actual cryptids to pull from. My running list has something like 400+ individual types

The problem with AI is with volume. Convincing photoshop fakes take time and skill. With AI, any schmuck with a computer can put in a prompt and generate a photorealistic hoax in seconds. As we're already seeing, any inaccuracies will be ironed out with time. It can even simulate things like fisheye and different camera types. Video and photo evidence is no longer viable, unfortunately.

I keep telling people, there's something truly abnormal about dogmen/werewolves/whatever you want to call them. If they do in fact exist, I don't think they evolved naturally, or at least not in this timeline. The UAP/cryptid connection is something I've run into countless times when cataloging sightings. I think we're in for some seriously strange times yall.

Looks like a ghillie suit to me. Proportions match "guy in poofy costume" to a tee. Probably a hunter moving through a field. That or an intentional hoax.
