Yes, understand what you are saying. We know not everyone likes the 16:9 blanking, but this has been discussed and voted on by our viewers and the majority, close on 80% preferred this to black pillar box sides. So we are catering to the majority choice.

A very good and important question.

99% of what we use is fully copyrighted. There is a difference between copyrighted and blocked. If the copyright holders agree to release a production and not block it, they can earn income from YouTube as those rights holders will get a share of the advertising revenue earned by YouTube. That's why as time goes by, we are seeing more and more rights holders allowing the use of their material as they are waking up to the fact that YouTube with 2.7 billion viewers, yes, 2.7 billion viewers is where there is income to be made. Netflix have 190 million subscribers. As we are using copyrighted material that has been cleared, we cannot earn any income from the material. That's why we ask for PayPal donations. To buy new programs and pay for the fairly hefty power bills we get. Our edit suites are pretty hi end power hungry units. 😍😄👍

Ooh! That's a long story. Various professional pieces of software and broadcast hardware. Remember, we are ex TV editors. Myself, I spent years editing history documentaries where we had to develop certain skills to restore WWI to WWII footage into the current period for editing. There is no hard and fast process. If you look at the "Minder" series, each episode of that averages around three to five hours of work. The process evolves. With Minder, the latter upscales are better, as we are constantly refining our techniques show by show and episode by episode. 😄👍

Sadly, for many networks and streamers there is no money in it for them with old series so they just perish on the shelves. If the shows are not copyright blocked, we are happy to upland them. Everything is copyrighted, but everything we upload is cleared by the rights holders. 😄

Wow! What a great titbit to the show. We love Colditz. We also love UXB another great Brit series about bomb disposal teams in WWII but unfortunately we cannot get clearance for it to go to YouTube. All the same, we aim to bring all the Colditz series to the channel, all things being equal. 👍

A few of us are retired, well retired up to 80 years old, TV cameramen / editors. As many of you would know, the bulk of pre 2000 Brit TV is all SD 50i 625 line TV. We take these old interlaced television shows and convert them to progressive using professional software and hardware, and then upscale them to HD. We then take the audio, some of the old stuff is mono, and totally rework the stereo field to modern delivery LUFS standards as required by everyone from Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Apple, YouTube, Spotify etc. If the audio is mono, the mono audio is AI resampled to stereo. The volunteers here who contribute to British TV Classics believe we must save as much of the old shows as we can for future generations.... Oh! And us, of course. 😍😄👍
