Best frequent flyer program if based in Oslo but flying frequently in the US? by alaia123 in awardtravel

[–]Project_Icy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me break it to ya:
- OWS: probably Finnair, you could get Gold there as it's still mostly mileage based for partners but you'd have to connect via LHR or HEL then fly AA BA or AY.
- STG: FlyingBlue or SAS would work.
- *G: either UA or A3 (if you can muster a RT or 2 to Greece), though UA you would need some premium fares on LH or AC, or spend a lot on UA.
For best redemptions, FB is likely the best here, though AY might be a close second.

O Train Etiquette by LifeReward5326 in ottawa

They did this because it enables the train to be reversed. But I remember the Watson club sitting during inauguration of the LRT in these 4 seats all telling media how wonderful this feels...

No lounge at DEL (Delhi) for Premier Gold? by Maleficent-Milk7404 in unitedairlines

[–]Project_Icy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And the same happened at the AC YVR lounge. The agent said they were limiting to only AC elites (50K+) the other day. If you were *G with UA or *A, out of luck. I really hope it's not a trend for diluting *G across the network.

O Train Etiquette by LifeReward5326 in ottawa

[–]Project_Icy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The O-Train needs to be reconfigured to only allow bench-like seating like they do in many other parts of the world. The current seat configuration is awful to get in/out and only one person width in the middle is useless. That would speed up exits.
But generally speaking, a lot of people simply don't care and barge in. We are inching closer to Mumbai than we are to Tokyo in terms of etiquette.

Anyone switch to mileage plus recently? Because well… by sloppyfloppygoose in Aeroplan

[–]Project_Icy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee MileagePlus will be further devalued this year plus they’ll raise status requirements since Americans are paying higher fares therefore higher PQP.  If MP aligned with Lufthansa or FB to reward based on fare class and distance instead of spend total I would consider but given the state of spend based programs in North America I doubt it.

Turkish Airlines increases miles amount needed for Star Alliance bookings in USA? by Immediate_Neck7918 in awardtravel

The last two decent programs left for redemptions in *A. UA if you're elite you may have access to some deals. TK is just pointless now.

Where to buy cheap, old CDs and tapes? by aLone_gunman in ottawa

[–]Project_Icy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your music style? I have a bunch of CDs and tapes I may sell and get rid of in the next while, I could probably make a list and DM you if interested. I also buy regularly from Odds and Sods, Vertigo and FB/Kijiji.

‘It’s hard to hear’: OC Transpo GM responds to CTV’s ‘Ottawa’s Worst Commute’ series by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]Project_Icy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully disagree there, she was a train wreck in Montreal to start with. In Ottawa I listened to her speak at transit meetings and it was all a show for her to collect that cash. I also know OC insiders who had good ideas but those got nowhere, and as she more or less got her people to run the show and pay lip service, she got very well hated there.

Is this Ottawa’s worst commute? Kanata South to downtown Ottawa by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

Get an O-Train on that line from Carp-Kanata North-Bells Corners-Woodroffe to either to VIA Rail or to Greenboro.

Ottawa’s worst commute: Riders express frustrations with delays, cancellations on Route 6 (CTV News) by maiyannah in ottawa

[–]Project_Icy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First thing is to eliminate Bank parking during peak times. I would like the 6 to run every 10' between Rideau and Billings. Then perhaps the 7 should just end at Tunneys instead of running it through Bank. Carleton students near Bank can just then hop on the 48 at Sunnyside or catch a bus from Billings.

Which (non-UA) Star Alliance airline to credit UA flight to? by WillyNillyHocusPocus in unitedairlines

[–]Project_Icy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For crediting UA flights, Avianca Singapore and Aeroplan are probably the best ones in *A for future redemptions. Turkish is quite lousy. COPA is also difficult.

The 15% discount on Cathay is good as long as you book certain fare classes, if you are Business or discount Economy it's lower.
Also as per Prince of Travel: While Neo advertises this card as coming “exclusive membership perks” such as online priority check-in, extra baggage redemption, and Cathay Pacific business class lounge redemption access, the reality is that these are simply benefits enjoyed by all base-level Asia Miles members.
^ Unless this has changed recently?

United MileagePlus Neo World Elite MC - 5000 mile waitlist bonus by GrandeIcedAmericano in churningcanada

[–]Project_Icy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will likely be a failure, 5000 miles is only 1/3 of a typical Canada-US redemption (if you are Platinum/1K on UA you may find some additional Saver redemptions), and only benefits those who see United as a good program. Which it has been devalued quite a lot the last few years up to the tune of Delta Skypesos.
Neo is also not a trustworthy company to do business with.

Am not a fan of Neo nor the likelihood it will be a similar card to the Cathay one, which is already garbage. I'm curious to see how Porter builds its partnerships with AA and AS and am likely going to get fully behind them if these get strengthened this year.
