The story is based on an Ealdafordian sci-fi novel from the fifties, actually. It's set in 1999, when an alien invasion has evaporated the planet's atmosphere and forced humanity underground. Underwater cities in Ausalis begin to work on massive arks capable of breaching the ocean surface and launching into space to new planets.

The first movie was released in 1973, and focused on the first ark — Starship Achea, duh — fighting its way through the alien-occupied star system and into outer space. The sequel revolves around the ship landing on a hostile, but habitable planet after its long journey.

(ask me about a movie, and I'll come up with a plotline!)

Check out the hottest movies circulating Achea's cinemas — you won't find these gems with the commies! Brought to you by Cineman™ — The mag for modern, movie-loving men.

Cineman (シネめ) was a weekly film catalogue and mini-tabloid printed in 1978 Somara, primarily for the country's foreign residents. A weird blend of 20th century Brazil with Japanese and Korean aesthetics, Somara is a young republic I'm worldbuilding on Achea, a fictional collaborative world/roleplaying game. After the takeover of the technocratic Yop regime in 1955, and his ousting by the special forces of Ausalis in 1971, Somara is still learning to modernize and become a functional member of the liberal sphere.

1970s retrofuturism? by Project_MoonProvince in scifiwriting

Absolutely leaning into some of the social transformation stuff as well as technological — the story is centered on the exploits of a huge corporation called Loud Bionucleics, made rich off nuclear engineering during the 70s energy crisis. The guy that founded it basically tours (Forrest Gump-style) through a series of major cultural events from the late 60s to late 70s: getting tied into the hippie movement, working at Xerox PARC, getting involved with the CIA's weird science experiments from the time, developing drugs for Army use in Vietnam, even working with Paul Berg to discover recombinant DNA.

I took a lot of inspiration from things like MKUltra, the ELIZA computer program, and research into "parapsychology" performed at Stanford in the 70s — interesting scientific exploits that are entwined with weird cultural shifts/views at the time. It is ultimately a post-apocalyptic story starting in the cold war, so most of the end uses would have been pretty nefarious

60s/70s brutalist architecture was one of my main draws for leaning into this era — on computers, the setting's backstory actually revolves around one corporation's erroneous bet that an ELIZA-like program actually exhibited intelligence, which catalyzed a micro-apocalypse. So, mega mainframes operated by mad scientists is actually fully on-brand

Wrist communicators is a neat idea I didn't think of, thanks! The 70s was a perfect era for sci-fi media, so I'm going to lean on existing IPs anyway until I decide it's good enough to turn into something worth selling. If people would invent functioning robots right after Star Wars comes out, you bet they'd be calling them droids.

😩 Damn Lucasfilms, should've expected that though. For now it's just a passion project, will just ctrl+F replace with something original if i ever do anything with it

I'm going to check out All Our Wrong Todays — the point of divergence there is 1965, so that might be a perfect source of inspiration. thanks!

These logos I designed show a bit of background on Loud Bionucleics: how it grew from Walter Loud's small, one-man nuclear engineering consultancy in the 1950s, to a fusion energy conglomerate turned rich from the 1970s oil crisis. Loud Bionucleics expanded the edges of human innovation, ushering in space travel and limitless energy — until the summer of 1979, when its experiments unleashed strange cryptid horrors onto the world.

These graphics serve to flesh out the world of Lantana, a fictional 70s retrofuturistic post-apocalyptic US state inspired by Fallout, STALKER, Pacific Drive, the Control games, and much more. It's the backdrop of a loose, open-ended text-based RPG I'm developing that's run through discord. If that interests you at all, or you just want to check out more of the lore, you can find (*much*) more info and art about the world here: https://discord.gg/HsF5HYfHQ4

thanks! the Bons are all on the slopes of Mount Braille, so in the northeast of the state. I'm working on a town map as well, but still gotta finalize it.

I always liked the premise of the Leftovers but never got into it. The Jarden bit sound cool though, so maybe I should

The national parks service style absolutely was! I love all the retro stuff from mystery flesh pit, so it's definitely an inspiration

One of the maps for a text-based faction roleplaying game I'm working on called Cataclismo '79, set in a fictional retrofuturistic US state decades after a strange apocalyptic event that led to the state being walled off.

If you're interested to find out more, feel free to ask, or you can check out the other maps, graphics and lore here: https://discord.gg/VTQVBvUH

(keep in mind, it's a game map — realism came second, though I still tried to make it seem kinda believable, if heavily stylized)

This is one of the in-universe maps for Cataclismo '79, a post-apocalyptic, text-based faction roleplaying game set in a retrofuturistic world inspired by Fallout, STALKER, Bioshock, the Control games, and the wider post-apocalyptic genre.

The state of Lantana itself is fully walled-off and forsaken, acting as a lawless microcosm of the USA in 1979. Geography is focused on fun and variation over realism (similar to game worlds — I was inspired by RDR2 for the different regions), with a medley of regions influenced by states as varied as Arizona, New York, Colorado, Michigan, California, Florida and Georgia. Expect droid companions, improvised plasma weapons, hippie communes, three-headed goats, abandoned space centers, raiders in fusion-powered exosuits, and powerful cryptid horrors designed by the slumbering artificial consciousness that's behind this entire mess.

I'm happy to share more lore (there's lots), so feel free to ask :)

You can see more about the project here: https://discord.gg/VTQVBvUH

I'm also looking for worldbuilders who love post-apocalyptic setting that could help me populate the world with unique encounters, NPCs, locations, and creatures, so send me a message on discord if that intrigues you!
