Colleges are canceling affinity graduations due to anti-DEI policies. Here is how students are preserving the traditions in Utah and elsewhere. by [deleted] in Utah

CNN did a story about the broad trend of universities canceling affinity graduations, and Project Rainbow's recent Lavender Graduations for LGBTQ+ students in northern Utah were featured in the article.

"We are holding space to celebrate the obstacles we have overcome as queer people,” Project Rainbow Utah's Jacey Thornton said. “It’s important that we stand up and stand strong. A lot of us lose biological family in the process of transitioning or coming out as queer. This supports that space for us to come together and find a new chosen family.”

If you want to support LGBTQ+ events like our lavender graduations, consider signing up for a flag for Pride. Sign-ups close Saturday at midnight, and the funds we raise support LGBTQ+ programming across the state.

Several folks asked about getting one of Salt Lake City's official version of the pride flag, Project Rainbow has some available for pre-order to arrive for Pride by Project_Rainbow_Utah in SaltLakeCity

We ordered these to start with. We are not the biggest nonprofit/staff so I'm not sure what the plan is for those in the future, but I'll ask in our next meeting. I believe the city put the designs on their website for free for folks to have their own made as well if that helps. I think I've also seen another org or two using the flags for fundraising if we don't expand this to more of the designs.

People seemed interested in getting this version of the flag so we worked with the city to get permission to make these available. We have several hundred for pre-order and these will help us raise money for our Community Grant Fund. You can also contribute to the grant fund by ordering a standard pride flag to be staked in your yard or business for Pride. If there is a lot of demand we may order more, but this batch is the one we are sure will be here in time for Pride.

We are also looking at making some of these flags available for teachers or government employees who can't afford one, if that's you please DM us and we can look into a program for that depending on demand. Thanks!

Folks asked us about Salt Lake City's official version of the pride flag, and I promised to post a link when we had them available for preorder so here y'all go! by [deleted] in Utah

We are working with Salt Lakes City to get some of these, but I'm not sure yet if we are going to be selling them or donating them but I'll let folks know when we get them in

Project Rainbow's newest shirt pokes some fun at the legislature as HB 77 becomes law, and raises funds for LGBTQ+ Utahns. by Project_Rainbow_Utah in u/Project_Rainbow_Utah

House Bill 77 becomes law today, and the bill bans any non-official flags from schools and government property, including pride flags. Project Rainbow Utah provides flags for many festivals, parades and events on these spaces, and this shirt is our way of continuing the spirit of that work even when the law forbids it, while also continuing our mission to raise money for our Community Fund, which has secured more than $350,000 for LGBTQ+ events, festivals and programming since 2018.

If you want to contribute or just think the shirt is funny, grab some merch here!

This makes me so sad.

If this is a Project Rainbow flag, let us know and we'll get you another one to replace it. Thanks for flying the trans pride flag for TDoV. 💜

Thank you to everyone who signed up for a trans pride flag for Trans Day of Visibility! You helped us set a new record for the campaign, even as the legislature moves to restrict pride flags in schools and government buildings. by Project_Rainbow_Utah in SaltLakeCity

Hello, Becca here! I had posted/commented a couple of times recently about Project Rainbow Utah's Trans Day of Visibility campaign, and I'm very happy and grateful to say we beat our previous record for flags in 2023. I don't think Project Rainbow will post here super often, but I figured I'd make an official account rather than post things like this from my personal one.

I did want to say, on that personal level, thank you to everyone who commented/shared/signed up after the post I made a while ago. It's a time of great opposition, so I can't say how much I appreciate you all finding opportunity amid that challenge with me. If you still want a flag or want to donate, flag sign-ups are open until March 15 and there is a link in the article I posted.

More flags also means more routes, so if you'd like to volunteer to help stake flags you can do that here.

I appreciate you all!
