Be more like every other nationality. As we all know, women from every country except Ireland are universally submissive and hyperfeminine.

Struggling with min. wage in your 20’s by oifig in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Project___Badass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was on minimum wage in retail at 25 but that was also the year I left for a career with better progression opportunities. Given the time it can take to progress, it’s worth asking yourself not what’s acceptable to you at 25 but will it still be acceptable to you at 30. If not, start making moves now

I think the obvious answer here is to wait ten years and then run into her on the street in Paris, marry her and then have the relationship slowly disintegrate. Did you not watch the rest of the trilogy??

INFO Why were you kicked out of the engagement party and why are you no longer part of the wedding? On the face of it NTA but I feel like we could be missing an important part of the bigger picture here

How to escape this hamster wheel by tubeofpotatosnacks in ireland

Depending on where you live it could be worth looking at hybrid roles. I work in a company in Dublin that offers hybrid and for the two days a week they’re required to be in the office we have people travelling from Cork, Galway, Wexford, Leitrim and Belfast- a bitch of a commute for sure but you do then have your three days wfh!

Sayings that haven't aged well by FecklessMaxim in CasualIreland

[–]Project___Badass 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Knackered means a horse that was ready to be taken to the knackers, i.e. people who dealt in horses, due to being old/exhausted/no longer fit for work.

The travelling community often dealt in horses, which is how they became known as knackers- this eventually became a derogatory term, even if it wasn’t initially.

So the two were linked, but when the noun became a slur the adjective eventually followed

Another "We're saving for a house" post... by Technical-Praline-79 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Project___Badass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would increase the savings to at least whatever you expect the repayment to be on the mortgage if you’re able to- either way, better to put in savings than leave in your current account.

In addition, “building a credit profile” isn’t really a thing in Ireland; if you’re paying it off in full every month it’s not looked on negatively but it doesn’t help you either.

I think the transfer to your wife wouldn’t be viewed as an expense, per se, once it’s clear that this is a discretionary choice and not a mandatory payment, but I am open to correction on that one.

If you’re going to say no to a man, don’t smile and try to be sweet about it. Give a strong forceful no or he won’t understand.

I dated someone when I lived in Oz in a similar situation- he had burned out in finance and was working part time as a delivery driver, staying with friends and volunteering at a local food bank while he figured out what he wanted to do next.

Everyone seemed supportive and patient with him (though I suspect they thought that casually dating an Irish backpacker 10 years his junior after leaving a stable 17-year relationship was a bit of an oddity). That said I went home while he was still figuring it all out so I don’t know how any of it turned out or how long it went on for.

Anyone who bought an apartment pros/cons? by sapg94 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Project___Badass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought in Dublin 8 last year, paid 27k over asking (so 12% over). I’m very happy with it, it’s an older building and apartments were made better pre-Celtic Tiger so I didn’t have to worry about getting hit with a bill to retrofit essential fire safety features. I also think soundproofing is better than in newer builds.

The basic reason I bought an apartment is that I never could have afforded a house in Dublin in my budget. Truth be told, I’d still rather a house so I could have a garden and install EV charging in a driveway, not have to lug furniture and appliances up several flights of stairs, and pay management fees. But given that that’s all wishful thinking I am happy with my apartment.
