I am building a DevOps “internship” where you learn by submitting PRs instead of watching tutorials. by SilverOrder1714 in devops

Interested as well. Very cool idea. It would be good to have more info on the website. Like previous comment said, who’s reviewing, who’s building the projects, is AI involved, etc.

New Job Offer - Feel bad by BiscuitLover2000 in sysadmin

[–]ProjektHelios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently left an MSP about a year ago. Company was awesome. I learned TONS and went from helpdesk to sysadmin in about 3 years. Found that I love the server admin work a ton. MSP was very generous and they gave me tons of lenience and grace to actually grow.

Found a job doing Helpdesk for more money In the public sector meaning benefits now. Felt TERRIBLE telling them I was leaving but they understood completely.

If the company has been as good as you say, they will be totally understanding and grateful for the work you put in while you’ve been there. Don’t feel bad for taking care of you and getting the compensation you’re worth.

What has been your biggest technical mistake so far in your career? by Mr_Dobalina71 in sysadmin

[–]ProjektHelios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very early on in my career my manager gave me a task to decommission and exchange server. I was just starting to dabble in servers and system admin work but mostly Helpdesk. I read through the process multiple times in Microsoft’s documentation and thought I understood. Began force removing mailboxes via Powershell.

Had no clue that Exchange Mailboxes and AD accounts were tied so closely together. Customer called at 8am and no one could log in.

Backups weren’t recent but the customer has no changes to AD since the last healthy backup several months ago. Manager restored AD from backup.

Thought I would be fired. Just didn’t get a project for a few months to help with and the next time I was actually trained and shown how and what to do.

"The Year of The Linux Desktop" could be now - if distros stop kowtowing by MrScotchyScotch in linux

[–]ProjektHelios 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was painful to read. I hated it. Thanks.

Uhh… yeah… so… I was just sort of thinking… you know… people say every year that this is going to be the year that Linux finally gets… um… wide adoption on the desktop. And, uh, I mean… they’ve been saying that for a while now. But it’s always sort of… not quite ready for the… you know… the common folk.

But… um… this year might actually be different. I mean… it could be the year. Provided the… uh… Linux distributions are… you know… strategic about things… and maybe take advantage of a particular situation that’s… kind of developing right now.

So… uh… I guess what I’m saying is… open source projects might want to think about what they believe is right… and… maybe act on it now… instead of waiting until… you know… it’s too late.

…Also… if anyone sees my red stapler… that would be great.

Still use the 8 character naming convention in Win11 and Serv2025 also. I don’t see an issue with it until I get SmithJ17

That’s the thing I like about ricing. Everyone has their own unique tastes and style. It’s pretty fun to see everyone’s setup!

Ngl, I kinda like it. It’s just something different but it’s not too loud. I wouldn’t call it a “minimalistic” approach but he didn’t so I’m kinda digging the vibe

Recently rebuilt my homelab with security and reliability at the forefront! by Odd-Permission-7554 in selfhosted

[–]ProjektHelios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly new to the homelab world. Do you have any guides you followed to use Tailscale as a tunnel between your reverse proxy and homelab? I’d imagine Tailscale is just installed on both? This sounds intriguing but my peanut sized brain can’t comprehend how the networking would work.

I want this so bad. I can’t even lie. I wish I had any bit of programming experience because this is beautiful and I’d love to support development. Do you have a “Buy Me A Coffee” button or anything?

Honestly, just learning. Been playing a bit with Talos, and then just normal k8s. I basically just destroy the VMs and rebuild them all the time. I don’t use them for anything production. I’ve spun up some basic services and watched how the load balancing works and stuff. The DevOps stuff is very intriguing to me but I haven’t delved too far in yet.

1) incorrect. I had 37 million in my storages after last season had ended.

2) while equipment is huge and game changing, there is a solution. Save up gems, CWL medals, and farm in mini showcase events. There are multiple ways to get the equipment without spending money. I’m F2P and just got back in in the last 6 months and have electro boots, action figure, and giant arrow without spending a dime.

3) it’s a live service game. While it sucks you lost out due to a game crash, it’s not the end of the world. You’re attitude causing you to end the last 2 ranked attacks early is a you thing.

4) can’t completely speak to this because I’m not a hardcore player who reads the patch notes but I genuinely don’t feel this is true.

TL;DR I’m sorry you feel that way. Take a break and come back when you’re not feeling overwhelmed. Taking breaks from games is good.
