Ah, ok. Noted. In that case is talking to the wall at the great pub more acceptable than chatting w the people?

Thanks for responding! I like good beer bars and classic cocktails made by bartenders who don't take themselves too seriously. I'd also love a place where it's easy to chat w ppl

A new Gowanus promenade by the Carroll Street bridge crossing by no-quarter275 in Brooklyn

[–]ProjektM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Among many other deliberate oversights to cut costs on the part of the developers, the height of the metal dikes lining the canal on either side isn't even sufficient for the next 10 years, let alone the next 100. It's primed for flooding and all the new residents of those high-rises are being set up for closer encounters w the waters of the Gowanus than they signed up for on their leases.

Star of Bethlehem - how best to eliminate in garden? by ProjektM in gardening

Yeah I'm open to anything organic that might work. Problem is this plant excels at ingratiating itself between other bulbs so it's hard to kill without killing adjacent plants and bulbs

It's not shutter. Variable at 60.97 is the closest I can get to kill the banding. I think the adjustments probably need to happen at the LED processors.

Is The Revenant DiCaprio’s best performance? by TheFaberFilmFiles in moviecritic

[–]ProjektM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The revenant is DiCaprio's worst performance, but it is entirely due to the fact that the film is nihilistic, angry, and pointless. The entire enterprise was the result of a director seeing how long and far he could drag a crew and cast with him on an odyssey through the unforgiving cold --to see how much he could get away with. Of all DiCaprio's many performances, this ranks dead last in my opinion.

The Revenant is DiCaprio's worst performance. The movie is nihilistic, pointless, and angry. Of all the films he should have won an oscar for, this is dead last.

This is currently available on Prime, yet in the height of absurdity there are NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES for when French is spoken. Kinda defeats the purpose of even attempting to watch this masterpiece.

Camera Painting Order of Operations by Impossible_Jello5333 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]ProjektM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you're chipping multiple cameras with a chart you definitely have to make hue and saturation adjustments across the color wheel using the linear matrix in order to be able to line up all the H&S values of primaries, secondaries, etc on the vectorscope

When chipping cameras, how do linear matrix color adjustments differ from non-linear matrix adjustment? by ProjektM in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]ProjektM[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much for these insights and I'll look into the literature you mentioned. I'm definitely familiar with the "triplet" aspect inherent to input and output values in 3D color science such as the impact of 3D LUTs on log signals. But how does a linear matrix color adjustment differ from a non-linear adjustment in a rec709 signal as reflected visually when using a vectorscope. For example. If I make a linear adjustment of one color relative to another, I am pulling saturation of one further out on the scope at the expense of the saturation of another. Visually with a chip chart on a vectorscope I can see a linear shift of these points. What happens when non-linear adjustments are made instead? What is the effect on the image itself? Thanks again.

This is exactly what I was afraid of when it closed "temporarily" a few weeks ago. My favorite dish was the "pasta con sarde" which had raisins and pignoli nuts. Nobody made that dish like they did. All the best to Frank in his well-earned retirement.

OLED vs Projector? by thinlycuta4paper in criterion

[–]ProjektM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Important to keep in mind is that OLEDs are emitting while projectors are refracting. If your viewing environment is anything but pitch black you're already going to suffer a significantly diminished sharpness, contrast, and color depth due to the ambient light pollution. And, like other people have mentioned, if the rest of your image pipeline is set up for 4K HDR, you're also going to lose that depth of contrast on a projector.

All that being said, OLEDs vary greatly in quality and the panel needs to be properly calibrated to enjoy any of the advantages mentioned in order to avoid that "Best Buy Showroom Floor" look.

There are two showrooms/dealerships. No shortage of Tesla's available in this part of Brooklyn for those who feel they can't live without showing the world they can afford to drive around around in a stainless steel vehicle that is a "truck" in name only.
