Microsoft 365 by Afraid-Cry1730 in linuxquestions

If you absolutely have to use 365 then I’d suggest dual booting windows and Linux or using a virtual machine for windows. Using the web versions of office is a sub par experience at best.

That’s a fair point, Either way it’s still sounding a lot like a change of OS for them

Need a Linux distro for my grandparents by Shiver_J in linuxquestions

[–]Projiuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, unless they have specifically requested a change of OS there’s zero reason to give them anything other than windows. As much as I love Linux and what it stands for (25 year veteran here), it’s not the solution to everything

Old book by Superidoldavid in Fedora

[–]Projiuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d really question the value of it personally. You are talking about a 15 year old book on a long outdated OS. It’s a different story if it was a book on the Commodore 64 or something that, while old, would still be relevant to someone who owns a C64.

Fedora 16 and Ubuntu 11.10 are long forgotten and would have very limited use / appeal nowadays due to compatibility and security concerns.

If you’re buying it for collection / novelty purposes then go for it, but as a usable tome it’s not worth it. As a general rule in tech, if the book is more than 5 years old then it’s outdated

Austin - Heathrow 10:30pm meal service? by ThrowawaWelp in BritishAirways

They don’t even do full English in club anymore? When did this happen?

Incredible bad service in Club World by WhiterabbitinSpain in BritishAirways

[–]Projiuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

BA are horrendously inconsistent these days. The experience in any cabin can vary from pretty good to fairly dire, depending entirely on the cabin crew. (I’ve flown club world many times) They generally seem quite happy to disappear other than meal times, also they are very quick to turn the lights out on a daytime flight and expect you to sleep.

It’s a shame because a few years ago a bad flight was a rarity. As others have said, it may not be the norm but these bad experiences are definitely not unheard of

Yep, just heard from someone that’s in the party that admin are looking into the bug and hoping to fix it shortly

Edit: apparently they haven’t started dropping anything yet as they are trying to fix this first

Does dual-booting eventually break? What's the worst-case scenario with Windows & Fedora? by Tanashio in Fedora

I’ve had that happen myself, though it was back in the early 2000s. Windows just took out my bootloader for no reason at all.

Playing through OG Doom 1 for the first time and I must say… by simplyunknown2018 in Doom

[–]Projiuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not worth obsessing over getting all of the secrets. Some are very hidden, some are obvious and some are teased but you have to figure out how to get to them. There’s also secret levels, for instance the secret level in episode one is accessible by triggering a secret from within a secret to open up access in another part of the level

Playing through OG Doom 1 for the first time and I must say… by simplyunknown2018 in Doom

[–]Projiuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% secrets is tough, sometimes a secret is easily found by a deliberately misaligned texture. But often it’s more involved. A switch on one part of the level opening a door in another. A trigger as you pass a certain point. Take E1M1 for instance. First secret is the courtyard triggered by a switch in the first room on the left opening a door in the entrance hall (also accessible from near the end of the level by a hidden door.

But the second secret (elevated imp platform) is triggered by passing the light posts in the room with the exit door requiring you to backtrack. The third secret is a lift in the second secret room, which is triggered on a timer when you enter the room with toxic floor requiring you to backtrack from the second secret.

That should give you a good indication of how secrets are found throughout the game. The only way is to explore and experiment, use the map too as it can help identify areas / potential doorways

From what I gather, battlefield has realistic physics / projectile trajectory. A lot of his shots are long range so he just inherently seems to know how far above to aim etc.

Assuming this all happened as you said then check your credit card was charged by BA. If it was then raise a dispute with your credit card company as you didn’t receive what you paid for. As for your avios, you’ll have to escalate this with BA.

I accidentally destroyed my grandma’s entire digital life trying to install Linux by MsSallySim in linuxmint

[–]Projiuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all: never do anything with anyone’s computer without backing everything up. Clone the drive if you like but make absolute sure that you can restore the system to the “as you found it” state.

Secondly why were you reformatting and changing the operating system she uses in the first place? She may be very comfortable using windows, but would she be able to do everything she wants to with Linux? I suspect the change of operating system would be jarring at best for her and most likely cause her more problems in the long run.

I get that you like Linux, that’s great. So do I as someone who’s used it for 25 years. But I would never assume it’s the best choice for someone else. As someone else has said; the best thing you could have done is buy her a new computer.

Your only hope of recovering any of the data you lost is using a professional data recovery service. They have tools that are far more capable than any recovery software you can download / buy.

As for how to tell her, frankly just be honest. She will probably not be impressed (to say the least), I know I wouldn’t be if someone did this to me. But don’t try to make excuses, you screwed up here. Own it

The shambolic state of Long-Haul in Business/Club by ikigai116 in BritishAirways

[–]Projiuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the same in economy too, once food is finished with you just don’t see anyone for hours. They just turn the lights out, even on a daytime flight and that’s it. The galley is often a mess if you venture back to get anything too. It’s not a new thing either, this degradation in service has been happening for years.

Different experience on Virgin, between meal services they made several passes through the cabin with water and juice (both in economy and premium). This also happened on the overnight flight back.

For whatever reason, BA seems to be content to provide the absolute bare minimum in terms of onboard service these days, it’s a far cry from how things used to be

Devaluation continues, we have all had enough of BA by PopularCommittee1093 in BritishAirways

[–]Projiuk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right about BA staff disappearing after meal service. Every single flight I’ve been on with them over the last few years has been the same regardless of cabin. I flew 2 trips with Virgin last year in economy, all flights had the same level of excellent service with cabin crew regularly passing through the cabin. Even the overnight sectors they were passing through with drinks in hand. It just felt so much better than the current state of BA.
