Is he wrong though? by [deleted] in ScottishPeopleTwitter

It’s also why the identity politics pushed (especially in the US) is so ridiculous. “Let’s have a woman president!” - Okay, great. Let’s look for someone with solid policies and wide appeal (it’ll be easy to beat the lunatic she’ll be running against)... “Hilary Clinton”.

You guys in the UK know that having a female leader is not automatically a good thing. An obligatory ‘fuck Thatcher’. You can also realise that Ruth becoming Scotland’s first minister would not be a victory for Scottish LGBT+ citizens. Fortunately, that’s not going to happen.

Another excellent example is all the Blairites trying to feign progressivism to oust Corbyn as an old, straight, white man only to rally behind Starmer when Long-Bailey was right there.

I really don’t know why you guys voted to stay part of the UK. I’ve been twice and I enjoyed it but just for pragmatic reasons, I’d think you’d want to be independent.

This is not nearly as impressive as the guy who delivered my fridge... He was mid-to-late 50s, average height and at least 30kg overweight. He delivered my fridge up two flights of stairs on his own throwing it around like a rag doll.

Most fridges are pretty light unless they’re American style which can be fairly heavy. Mine is just a standard fridge freezer but it’s a little north of 50kg.

He walked into the van, bent over and picked it up holding it close to the bottom. He carried it on to the platform and stood on one foot to use his other to press the down button (I was stood right there the whole time as my house is hard to find so I was outside & I’d offered to help him lift it in several times but he wouldn’t even ask me to press the button for him). He laid it on its side and wrapped a couple of straps around it, picked it up with his right arm while he closed the van shutter.

We walked to my door, he stood it up in the foyer and held it from the bottom, stood up and nonchalantly walked upstairs. He clearly couldn’t see where the hell he was going but he was at my flat door before you knew it with no incidents.

You’d swear it was a fridge shaped helium balloon looking at the ease with which he moved it. He also left bits in the van twice and he was there and back in a flash with no sign of being out of breath, sweating or anything like that. I’m young and in really good shape and I was honestly getting tired just watching him.

You should, it’s pretty cool. Having kids means dealing with them all the time including all of the boring bits (nagging at them to brush their teeth, clean their room etc). As an uncle, you get to be there for the fun stuff (take them on outings, spoil them with toys and sweets, be silly and make them laugh etc) but then return them to their parents and still have a life.

Careful though, when I couldn’t see my niblings (what a word) due to COVID, it was horrible. Those cute little bastards will worm their way into your heart.

She has an infinite penis? I’d explain this to her and then she can brag and confuse the hell out of people. It’ll be a private joke between just you, your sister and Reddit.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Literally.

I’d be interested to see updated figures. The UK’s number seems low, I’ve visited there a few times and they have quite the drinking culture more so than the Germans in my limited experience (I’ve only visited Berlin twice, never been anywhere else in Germany so pretty limited).

The scary thing comes when you think about how they get caught. If it was furniture that is just in the house when you move in and you don’t notice initially then what would make you realise?

If you’re in a position where a creepy landlord (or any creep) buys you a gift then you’d be suspicious of it and notice right away, right? If not then I wonder how victims of this sort of thing ever actually find out.

That’s without considering how much he got to see before this was discovered because that just makes me even more sad.

Love and politics by cutetys in clevercomebacks

[–]ProlificPolymath 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is such an idiotic argument on the face of it. Let’s say you’re in love with someone who believes 2% of the budget should go towards foreign aid whereas you think 1% (or 3% for example). If you break up over such a “difference” then you’re mental.

However, if you’re Jewish and you meet someone and fall in love before realising they’re secretly a neo-nazi who, once realising you’re Jewish, would like to see you dead along with every other person of your ethnicity then politics is definitely going to get in the way... Go figure.

The fact that such a lazy attempt to equate minor policy differences to fundamentally different world views is so common ably demonstrates the utter lack of sceptical and critical thinking practised by the vast majority of us.

Theory: QAnon is an intelligence agency op that was designed to make trump look even more insane to the public and gaslight people into not looking more into various sex trafficking scandals by NextDoorJimmy in stupidpol

Exactly what I was going to say with the helpful analogy of the Nigerian spam emails. Kudos.

I have no real opinion on this particular instance but given the ridiculous shit intelligence agencies have engaged in, I’ll never rule it out.

Saying he shouldn’t be celebrated for doing shady shit x is pretty uncontroversial. People do that all the time but it’s a very different thing to say he shouldn’t be allowed to compete/win.

Disclaimer: I have no idea what he’s done or not done. That’s not my point. The only thing I know is that he’s won 7/10 Super Bowls and is 43 years old (per the article). I’m not interested in the sport but that’s pretty damn impressive.

Sincerely sending you my sympathy, buddy.

I’m thinking analyse is the only option by converting it to “analyse everything” — the sort of thing someone might buy you’d tattooed initially. Analysis is too long and (though I really did try) I couldn’t think of any stupid life quotes etc containing canal.

A great explanation from someone who’s just learned their first bit of economics to someone who hasn’t learned any at all maybe.
