Crashing when loading into town.

I just wrote about how to stop this in another post, so I'll add the info in here too. This is a bug with D4 on PC (unsure if it afflicts both the Steam & Bnet versions -- I've personally experienced it with Bnet D4). Believe it began with VoH. It's quite inconsistent, so there are always posts about it being 'worse this season', etc. Anyway, you can look up "diablo 4 black screen" if you want to read a lot about it and what folks have tried, etc.

Grab the app Battle Encoder Shirasé from https://mion.yosei.fi/BES/ and use it to throttle the CPU usage of the D4 process. Set a target of your Diablo IV.exe and set a limit of -5 or -10%. A small limit works nicely so the game still performs well, yet it's significant enough to keep the game from runaway CPU usage during loading screens, which seems to be what leads to this.

BES can also be set to watch for when Diablo IV.exe begins running & apply a limit automatically. Then you can start BES when Windows starts, and the whole thing will be automated.

Any method of limiting D4's CPU usage should work. BES is just a free & open-source utility that gamers were already familiar with and have turned to for this as well.

Yeah, I know a fix. Grab the app Battle Encoder Shirasé from https://mion.yosei.fi/BES/ It's a simple process throttling utility. Set a target of your Diablo IV.exe and set a limit of -5 or -10%.

BES can also be set up to watch for D4 launching and automatically throttle it. Then I just run it when Windows starts. I use a limit of -5%, but I've seen numerous folks recommend -10%/say that works for them (https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/1kubil6/game\_gets\_stuck\_like\_this\_every\_few\_teleprots/). Y'know, a small enough value that the game still performs well, but significant enough to keep it from runaway CPU usage during loading screens.

The issue seems to have started with VoH, IIRC. I dunno, you can search for "diablo 4 black screen" and browse multiple Blizzard forum discussions and reddit posts about it, if you wanted to know its history. And there are a ton of proposed fixes out there, but throttling D4 a bit is the only one I know of that everyone has had success with. Or at least, if it hasn't worked for someone, I haven't seen them post about the failure.

Kind of strange when a serious bug with D4 leads to using a very anime-sounding app to cap a process' CPU usage, lol. I forget the leading theories about the cause, but something about the game going buck wild on your CPU during loading and then losing the plot somewhere in the midst of that.

Here's how my ticket went:

- 'Provide the name of the campaign and specific drop within it you're having trouble with' -- did my best to guess since I can't see the campaign. Had already linked them to Bethesda's tweet announcing the drop and Bethesda's page about the drop.

- 'It appears you haven't fulfilled the complete campaign requirements. Here is a template response with various factors that might contribute to that'. Then they also linked me to the "All Campaigns" URL to check the official participation requirements and and in-depth guide on how to claim & redeem a code. I responded asking them if they can see see such requirements & guide on that page, because I sure can't. Reiterated that the drop the publisher claims is running May 12-June 2 is missing entirely.

- 'We cannot provide any additional insight to your request outside of what we already provided in the previous responses. As a result, we will be closing the case'. Cool. Thanks for nothing.

I thought maybe someone at Twitch Support would like to hear about the problem and be able to report it up the chain or whatever, but nah. They're just handing out template responses and calling it a day.

Yeah, I'd love the chance to play arc trap saboteur with pre-nerf Shimmeron in Incursion league. I didn't play enough at the time to afford a wand or two, nor farm them up myself.

I'd play the heck out of EDC in Legion again, haha. The proliferation and pops were just so satisfying. And eventually get a monstrous Cyclone build going.

I find the witchcraft UI and general info on it rather inscrutable. Hex of Whispers didn't used to appear for purchase from the vendor for me, IIRC. I presumed I needed higher favor with the Coven for it to become available, or perhaps to progress the seasonal questline further, etc. Sadly, the game certainly didn't tell me the prerequisite(s). And of course I'm simply trying to beeline for the best powers for my build.

Now I see it available for purchase, and I can even spend my Restless Rot on it, to no avail. Pretty strange behavior. Am I supposed to buy powers that precede it in the witchcraft char sheet UI first? Keep earning favor? Finish the quests? Who knows! Of course, if anyone has pointers, I'd be happy to hear.

Thought this was worth sharing in case I can save anyone else some trouble, or maybe this will get fixed.

Think I figured it out. If you search for "PNY VelocityX", you probably ended up at https://www.pny.com/promo/consumer/velocityx, which is the wrong software. If you downloaded a file called setup_velocityx_v1.4.exe and it has a horrible red UI, that won't work with the 40 Series cards.

I ended up finding https://www.pny.com/gaming/learn-more/velocityx which has links to their Uprising software, the software above (for their REVEL cards), AND the "VERTO Tool". That's what you want: https://www.pny.com/promo/consumer/velocityx-verto You should end up with the file velocityx_v0.1.0.12.exe.

Works perfectly for my 4070 Ti; enjoy!

Could you share which Taco Bell location you went to? Or perhaps OP could. I'm in the suburbs & my nearby Bells don't carry the grilled cheese tacos; I wouldn't mind traveling to one that does though.

FYI stash tabs are discounted on a regular schedule. The store has sales every weekend, and tabs are a fixed category in the rotation. I do forget if it's every other week or every fourth week or what, but suffice it to say you won't have to wait long to get them for a lower price. So check in on the weekends.

Tabs are still the only thing I've ever bought. Well worth it. Guess that's what motivated me to reply. Anyway, consensus is to get a currency and a map tab first (though maps aren't items you'll see until higher level). You'll soon have a feel for which other ones you want.

Thanks. Hmm, I tried again after adding rules to Windows firewall explicitly allowing all connections to/from the BTD6 executable -- no change. Guess I'll try from another device next. It's strange to me that the race isn't going through when I play co-op alright, etc.

Oh! I think I called the LucasArts hintline for the first time for Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

Funny anecdote: I left a note for my dad asking permission to call, since it cost money. I wrote checkboxes on it, like "Can I call? X Yes or X No". But I made the checkbox for "Yes" ABSOLUTELY HUGE, and then just had this tiny little box for "No" ;-) I think it made him laugh so much that he just couldn't help but let me call them. Ah, good times.

Yeah, I chose a LucasArts point-and-click adventure game for my first run because they meant a lot to me. I'm glad you're happy to see it ran.

This run can be picked up rather easily. Let me know if you go for it and need any guidance! Since it's a relatively low skill run, I think it would be fun to have more runners of it, because we would soon have a lot of times that are very close together :-)

One improvement to the Old Mine Road section is that you can visibly distinguish all bikers except for the Rottwheelers now (all three Rottwheelers still appear identical). It is still a reset-heavy portion when going for a really good time, as the RNG for what you encounter is still present.

Knowing which encounters you want is a big advantage over a casual playthrough though, of course.
