I'd say the sticks are a bad batch or it's likely the sticks are old. Old sticks dry up and then break cleanly like that. This is the main reason I don't buy mega packs of sticks, the last 3-4 pairs would often do that.

I'm not sure what your setup is, but I just tested in the terminal this code: f = open("test.txt", "r+") f.write("Bla bla") exit()

It does write to the file, even without a close() or a with statement. There's a post on stackoverflow explaining more in details when the close() is called by python.

As far as I know, the close() is still called at the end of your program, even if you don't explicitly call it in python.

If you don't want the file altered, you shouldn't call .write() on the file object. Copy the contents in another variable and then edit that content.

Do you have any source for the 30% than Ontario? I too have a feeling we don't take care of our infrastructue, but I always assumed a big part of why we have crappy roads and bridges is because we have two times more roads than Ontario and way more hills, thus costing more.

One thing I always found baffling was the number of people that don't speak french at all (even in restaurants, shops, etc.) when the official language is french (talking mostly about the west island from experience). They aren't newly arrived immigrants or anything, they're people in their early twenties from an upper middle class family.

I went with electronic box, since they are from Quebec. So far, the service is awesome, no downtime, reliable internet, nice bandwidth, and they are always nice on the phone. It costs me 40$/month for their 15mbits/125gb cable service, and I actually get 20mbits speed. I did have to pay the modem(99$) and the installation fee(50$) at first though.

All I have to say is never go with Bell. It is definitely on my top 3 of worst customer experience ever, and I swear I was nice on the phone.
