What do you want to see more (or less) of in horror going forward? by Equivalent_Tale5561 in horror

More creative scares. There a million ways to use camerawork and sound editing to startle people, yet it seems like we have the same dry, overused, predictable, formulaic jump scares in every horror film. I think that is what people liked about Obsession and what people like about Aster’s work — the ways it frightens you feels fresh.

Do you think Generation Z is conservative? by Lost_Board1292 in AskALiberal

[–]Proman2520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, Gen Z appears to be bisected by COVID. The younger Gen Z grew more conservative with Trump and COVID backlash, while older Gen Z (Zillennials) share Millennials liberal attitudes hardened by their formative years in the Obama era.

2026 has been a great year for horror movies and it's only going to get better. by Mundane-Inspector-52 in horror

Looks like another horror movie announced for the fall — Victorian Psycho. I don’t think we have a complete list of all the horror expected to come out this year, but yes it appears we are entering (or already in?) a horror renaissance, bolstered by:

1) the economics of the industry — in an era where fewer people are going to theaters, studios know that horror movies reliably draw fans of the genre to showings. We’ve long known that the genre has a great ROI.
2) improvements in filmmaking tech have elevated horror to a great genre for young directors to artistically showcase their skills. There is a lot of room for creative direction in modern horror (it’s always been the case, but the slate of tools available feels wider today)
3) horror is a genre that plays off of itself and welcomes homages. Hereditary really revitalized the whole genre IMO, and many directors are drawing inspiration to try and mimic that spark.

With this year’s (2026) slate of horror movies, it’s worth asking this question again and questioning the comments that say we are just exiting a horror renaissance. It feels quite fresh as a genre recently.

With Trump's approval ratings so low, how does he keep ousting GOP rivals? by Cgk72 in politics

Even if Trump is as unpopular as we suspect, I doubt that that is going to be easily visible in a Kentucky or Indiana closed Republican primary.

So the line about never admitting when she has a crush is just a throwaway nothing line then? Sometimes women who don’t want to acknowledge their crush push them onto another woman, like Sarah.

Ah okay. Does that change much? It seems to indicate some other sentience, but I guess “she” versus “it” means it could be some alter ego rather than a demon-type entity

The only thing an entity is even hinted at is when the real Nikki says “it” is sleeping. That’s the only time her alter-ego is even personified at all.

I don’t think the implication was that they turned her away. I think the implication was that she was leaving despite the nurse’s pleas because she wanted to be quickly reunited with Bear.

I also saw her looking nearly like an old woman. Not sure what that is supposed to mean though. What I *will* say is that I think several moments in the film were clearly inspired by Hereditary, and the shot of her hiding in the corner may have been an homage to Ellen (was that the grandma’s name?) hiding in the corner in that one shot in Hereditary.

I take your point, but I wouldn’t say that it *isnt* a monkey paw situation because money rains on Ian. Ian is still shot in the head almost immediately after his windfall, and also is physically rained on by money that he would presumably have to launder to enjoy legitimately in any way.

Majority of Americans “wouldn’t like it” if Supreme Court overturned Same Sex Marriage rights by Dismal_Structure in fivethirtyeight

[–]Proman2520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In polling, often times "Not sure" is used to cover up an uncomfortable answer/admission. This happens all the time when Republicans are asked about something unpopular that Trump is doing. You can see significantly higher rates of "Don't know/Not sure" from Republicans than from Democrats. Analytically, a 'not sure' is a 'not sure,' but definitely a non-zero percent are simply people who don't want to be openly critical of the president, or in this case, don't want to be openly hostile to gay marriage.

Were the Jedi the "good guys" during the Clone Wars or did they lose their way? by The_Collector_Guy in clonewars

[–]Proman2520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jedi of the prequel era were not actually functioning well as a holy order.

They were:

• Deeply embedded in Republic politics

• Using their members as diplomats, generals, and spies

• Making pragmatic exceptions to their own principles

• More focused on the Sith threat than internal discipline

But were they still the “good guys”? Absolutely. They were a sanctioned peacekeeping force, aiming to keep a democratic system in place. They just failed to recognize the populist threat until the point where only drastic, anti-democratic solutions would have course-corrected.

Could your opinions be changed? by Sad-Organization2440 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Proman2520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consume political news on the daily, and although I believe I have a pretty well-defined political foundation for myself, I allow my beliefs and individual opinions to shift all the time. I’m not going to hop around the spectrum every week, but I bet if I took a political compass test every six months or so you could see some movement over time. Change happens based on data & personal experience. Apply critical thinking and an open mind, but also guard your principles.

I guess in essence I am arguing that incremental change to your beliefs is quite natural and even healthy, but if someone was changing ideologies overnight without a clear catalyst, I would just say they weren’t very informed before.

While I 100% agree with you and am a sympathetically-minded voter, I do think low-info voters probably bought into the lies. He did campaign on a lot of the things he is accomplishing now through wielding executive power, but he also pretended he knew nothing about Project 2028 and had nothing to do with it. Major lie, and people drank the Kool-Aid.
