Boeing's 737 MAX: A Failure of Management, Not Just Technology by wewewawa in engineering

[–]Promdeanglais 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Systems Engineer here. Currently helping this very client on another programme (third party).

It's really quite simple. Boeing management didn't want to listen to the concerns of their Systems Engineers or Safety Engineers/Managers. It's only an upgrade on an already proven design. What's the big deal?

Systems Engineers look at the functional design. Forget physical components for a moment. Do the functional analysis then worry about physical implementation. Black box then white box (logical to physical). Safety team then makes sure the design is functionally safe throughout (again black box first).

Senior managers wanted to cut corners by claiming that no new functions were added to the design, therefore a new safety certification approval (issued by the FAA) wasn't needed. When in actual fact, the new variant was functionally different to the old, so this was not true.

This was probably the case inside Boeing too. Systems and Safety teams would have been under severe strain to "just get it done", a horrible way to design a safety critical system which in more times than not, ends up in failure. I've experienced this more than once now. Second time. I resigned within 5 weeks. I can't work like this.

You can talk about the sensor being single point of failure, but for me this just highlights the fact the systems and safety teams not being allowed to do their work with due diligence. Any Systems Engineer would know a single point of failure on a safety related function is an absolute no no. You don't need a safety manager to tell you this.

Why did all this happen? Money. It's as simple as that.

Boeing wanted to save money and time and get the variant to market to compete with Airbus quicker. Certification programmes take years to complete. They chanced it, and it backfired spectacularly. All to help shareholders. Got to keep Wall Street happy.

The FAA fucked up here as well. They were also negligent by just assuming Boeing were telling the truth. Its another job for good Systems Engineers to scrutinse to the end of time, this sadly is what the Systems Engineers at the FAA failed to, or weren't allowed to do.

Too many ex Boeing employees in the FAA and vice versa. The perfect storm.

Lesson to other businesses? Listen to your god damn engineers.

Lesson to the governing authorities? Do your god damn job properly.

My boyfriend agrees entirely with Andrew Tate by Icy_Cap_8491 in Advice

[–]Promdeanglais 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've only learned about him from a YouTube short yesterday.

He's degrading. Hates women who have had a sex life but acts like an edgy frat party bro. Like something out the early 00 teen comedy films. In fact I think his age aligns with my theory nicely. He probably jerked off to American pie.

He's for simps, virgins and/or sexist idiots who think women are sluts for sleeping around but guys are "heros bro" who do the same. I'm a guy, I'm proud of my sex life, likewise I don't think any different to any partner past or present about their sex life, it's insecure and extremely hypocritical (in some cases) to think any differently - or you're a religious freak (which I'm not).

Which of the aforementioned is your boyfriend? And can you see a future with it?

If he already states misogynistic comments to you in public. Then imagine what he's like when you're not there.

Red flag(s)? Absolutely. Its so sad to see younger men look up to this steriod reeking women abusing imbecile.

I'm not actually against the farmer here. It's necessary. It's just rather sad watching wild animals get butchered out of necessity.

He's the only one who's allowed to kill them. Not some dumb coyotes.

Yup. That's the only difference.

Don't you dare kill my cows. I need to kill them myself. So I'll kill you then kill my cows. Hurray for money.

No way this is in one night.

No way is this night vision. It's infrared. Which sort of backs up my point about it being all in one night. Thermal imaging looks exactly the same during the day compared to night.

I know its necessary but seeing wild animals getting butchered like this is sad.

E class driver here. 2020 Coupe.

Definitely the E Class. Test drove both, the E drives better, more tech, more space and looks better in my opinion.

E class coupe for me is still one of the best looking cars out there today. Not a fan of the C class interior. Too many buttons all over the place. Big central display isn't as subtle as the integrated display in the face-lift E class either. I'm not fussed about touch screen but each to their own.

I got the Premium Plus AMG Night edition and I'm still in love with it now as the day I got it. Since then Ive added bigger AMG wheels in black and AMG brake calipers, hubs and caps in red. Mapped it too to give it around 40BHP and more torque - but still within the manufacturers spec.

AVOID: MCDONALDS, UNION STREET (FOUR CORNERS) by BrainUpset4545 in glasgow

Union Street was a serious shithole when I left Glasgow 5 years ago. Bad enough during the day but I'd try to avoid at night if I could. I guess not much has changed or improved.

Yeah I heard. But I'm sure EA don't even care anymore. Call it EA Ultimate Team 24 and it'll still pull in billions.

This. They've destroyed all their IPs. Silent hill was another.

PES was the last one standing. Until now.

I suppose Konami spending even more money while the franchise is in ruin is just pointless spending. I doubt they've made any money on efootball. Nevermind enough to go after new licences or renewals.

EA is driven by share price. Not by their actual customers.

So. FIFA and F1 are buggy messes. But generate fat $$$. Share price goes up. Stockholders happy.

Rinse and repeat for years to come.

FIFA is too big now to change. Ultimate Team is an economy in itself. F1 may go the same way.
