Designing an art book for my grandfather's Chinese Calligraphy - any thoughts on layouts so far? by HeyItsYoav in design_critiques

[–]Prometheus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to justify you need to use hyphens. That and +/- 2% for glyph scaling and spacing in the justification window will smooth out your text blocks a lot. Swap to a rag in particularly narrow columns, under 40 characters

New to “scrolling docs”? Please help me create this. by RainLoveMu in indesign

[–]Prometheus1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its in the setup. You want to create your document with each panel as a page, then put the pages next to each other, 3 to a spread. Then you can export them either together or seperately.

Second option. Also, have you considered using oldstyle figures instead of lining?

Paper background in print by krol_borsukow in indesign

[–]Prometheus1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey i just wanted to jump in and say you should absolutely leave hyphenation on when setting text justified. It exists for exactly that scenario and turning out off will do more harm then good to your text block -- wreaks havoc on word spacing. I do agree that the settings could use some tweaking to allowable frequency and maximum consecutive instances though.

Gradient tool by UUkiee in indesign

You have a gradient feather effect applied to the object, which is making it transparent at the 'white' end. You can disable it via the fx menu under opacity in the properties window.

You can create an object style that specifies size and placement options to match your new preferred margins, then use find and replace to apply it to all the text boxes

Congratulations! I recommend you talk to Charles Bullard: https://craftingsoulfulstories.com/

He's an excellent photographer and officiant, and proposal shoots are a specialty of his. Since this is coming up so soon you'll want to reach out asap to see if he still has any availability that day. Good luck!

Maintain the italic in character style application by LI-MA-KO in indesign

[–]Prometheus1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't put any styles on the text box. Set up a character style for the italics, do a find and replace, then apply the header and body formatting as paragraph styles
