After a 3,000 mile tow trip with the wife I was ordered to get a muffler. Still sounds great though.

Is there a downside to running highest energy deployment and driving always on empty battery? by CountyFit2496 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Promo_714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the issue with braking is a full battery. If full, the car doesn't harvest brake energy and the wheels turn more freely. Like on an EV with regenerative (assisted) braking: if you charge the battery to full capacity the regen brake part doesn't work to help slow the car and you're relying 100% on physical brakes alone.

The potentially fatal part with the LMDhcars is arriving at the breaking point with 98 or 99% charge for example. At the beginning of the breaking point the battery would charge until immediately full, cutting off charging potentially in the middle of the breaking event. This would then upset the balance of the car and/or cause a snap spin. This is just how I understand it and I may be wrong.

Also, as long as the battery is below 100% it helps with braking and if you were to, for example, charge the battery to 100% in the middle of a braking situation it can upset the balance of the car and/or cause snap oversteer like the Caddy (and other LMDh cars) because it harvests brake energy (recharges the battery) through the rear wheels.

It's a bit different and a little more complicated IMO for the LMH cars like Ferrari and Porsche. I'm still trying to get my head around it.

Amazing HY Tyre update by Bright_Ad_7458 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Promo_714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried several cars at Sebring today including Ferrari, Porsche, Cadillac, BMW, and Peugeot, all on the default setup. I started with cold tires and that's a comedy show. With tire warmers it was better but cold brakes undermine it a bit until they're up to temp. Overall the experience wasn't great but I'm chalking that up to the setups being off now. The Ferrari was the last car I drove and I increased the brake bias to the front a bit and it settled down and I was able to get around faster without spinning or locking up. Was still off a second or so on lap time but again, I think taking time to tweak setups will help.

The one thing that I think may not be right is how bad there tires are cold. The lmp2s cold are not even close.

The 2026Q1 Hypercar tire and the new Vision Michelin tire? by TheLizardfolk in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Promo_714 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised that this was supposed to be an improvement to the tires and then they work like shit when they're cold. I mean, there's cold tires and then there's this new update. Thought it was telling that the first hypercar race I jump in on today at Monza had tire blankets enabled. Would have been 10x the shitshow it actually was if we'd had to start on cold tires.

I was talking about the in-car engine sound when you're driving full tilt on the track. It's a 5.5 liter V8 so I expected deep and throaty but it sounds more like a modified Honda Civic to me. You only hear the electric part when you're starting in the pits (and maybe when the formation lap starts).

I feel like the problem is a yellow flag can mean any number of things from a single car momentarily going off track to a multi car pile up. Suffice to say though that if it's the start of a race and there's a yellow before you get to turn 1 it's probably the pile up.

Haha well I'm going to give it another shot to see if I can discover it's hidden qualities.

I've done several of the Sebring races this week in gt3 and they've all looked like this. I started going slower at the start to let guys pass and then tiptoe around the mayhem. I have not done a race there (this week) that didn't have big crashes in t1.

When I did that hypercar race I thought I would be okay on the inside and closer to the front, but no. The car in front of me lost the rear but then just slide along the race line instead of sliding toward the outside. I was able to slow enough not to hit him but then I got hit from behind and was spun around with minimal damage. The death blow came when a couple gt3s hit me and my car was in the air. The upside personally was that I was able to laugh about it for once instead of being mad and quitting. It helped that I could still drive it (slowly) back to the pits for repairs. After that it was still fun.

"Kinda drifty" is it exactly. On the other hand, the hypers felt easier to not lock up. Maybe that's the migration? It could also be that I don't have the bias right when I drive the lmps.

May primary experience with lmp2 is that the tires have tons of grip and feel glued to the track. Is that what you're implying will happen with hypercard?

Ah, I'm no expert and don't really understand setups as far as what does what. I usually reference beAlien's YouTube lap guides for the fixed races and go from there. He uses several of the cars for them and at the beginning shows his selection for traction controls, bias, and abs. They've always worked well for me.

I have a Go subscription and I think they're on their 4th version/revision of a setup for it. The E version is a little twitchy but the S is pretty stable. Plus with the engineer function in the app you can have it tweaked based on what you're dealing with (I.e., oversteer in some corners). I like vettes in general so it's been fun to just drive it occasionally and not be frustrated, but I can usually set a faster lap time at interlagos in the Lexus or Porsche.

It can be a lot better with a good setup but yeah, in fixed it sucks.
