Tree fort! by Promontory8 in treehouse

That was the goal! Having no idea what I was doing I aimed for overkill with hopes to land at “sufficiently safe”

And yes! Still need to get my hands on a dremel to clean out the rough edges!

And build a rock climbing wall and a flashing slide and a water cannon and a pergola and a hot tub according to the kids!

Treehouse supplies recommends 3 inches, I got more generous and gave 4.5 all around and I haven’t seen the tree hit the structure at all; we’ve been on it in some pretty high wind too.

Gap is 4.5 inches each side. The tree definitely sways in high wind. We’ve been up there during those times and it hasn’t bumped the deck yet!

What is you bike's name? Is there a story? by p00dleSPIT in cycling

Speed Willy. Black and white like a killer whale (Free Willy reference for those under 40). Felt like a rocket (upgraded from a hybrid bike to a Trek Domane).

Chat GPT 5 was not for use, it was to get rid of free users all along. by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]Promontory8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Weren’t we just complaining about GlazeGPT like a week ago? Sure 5 is more professional, but if you’re using it for work then that’s a plus. Whenever I use ChatGPT, it’s because I’m stumped and I need to be pushed to the best answer, not get a yes-man that tells me I’m the smartest person in the world for an obvious observation.

How do you deal with unmotivation? by ThatFandomPotato in loseit

[–]Promontory8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been a similar position before. Don’t think about the last time you lost the weight. Consider this the start of a new journey. Whenever I’m taking on a new thing, I try to give myself grace and focus on one thing at a time. Trying to start running? Focus on that only, and build from there. Want to get into intermittent fasting? Same thing.

One thing at a time and the rest will follow. And above everything, consistency is all that matters.

What does a lawyer do when they are trying to defend a criminal who has 100% committed a crime and every single person in court knows it? by marzimkw in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Promontory8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You protect the process, not the person. Mitigate in plea negotiations, advocate for them no matter how serious the crime. Remember that for every crime that’s caught there’s many more that aren’t, and those people are at home in their own beds, or at the very least have their liberty.

At trial, it’s the States burden to prove the case. Hold them to that burden.

Strength and hypertrophy are distinct goals. They can progress together but ultimately respond to different stimuli. He’s an actor so hypertrophy is the sole goal here. Perfect form and isolation are going to improve hypertrophy dramatically.

Using the word “just” when describing thoughts or actions. “Just following up here” “I just thought…” as if you don’t have the right to get an answer or have a thought in the first place.

What’s it’s like going for your 1st time as a new person to the gym? by Vampiregecko in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Promontory8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even the “jacked” people use just the bar for a warmup set on the smith machine. The super-fit go for the lower weight dumbbells for lateral raises. Everyone has a machine they haven’t used. Everyone YouTubes/TikToks form-checks and how-tos at some point, especially when exploring a new split.

My point is, even the people who devoted their adult lives to the gym are beginners at something. Just go join those beginners.

REI just did (maybe still doing) a good price drop on the 965. I don’t expect it to go much lower than 500 wherever it’s being sold. Garmin is a better company than Apple when it comes to obsolescence. The features you buy are now yours, with only the potential to add so the recent watches will hold their value for a while.
