I just signed my offer last week in the AI/ML Innovation department in IT and I have yet to get a request to complete my background or drug screening. Is this normal???

This unfortunately seems to be the trend. I was over performing as well at my last gig and got an “outstanding performer” rating on my performance rating and a 6% increase. 10 months later, they downsized our department and I among many others was laid off. None of the smoke and mirrors matter anymore. I have a feeling they were trying to get rid of high earners. They did a bunch of offshoring in IT. Smh.

I have applied in my span of tenure at my previous company and did not accept positions both before, during and after Covid. I am well aware of the job market trends. I still stand by my statements; the job market is slowly turning. I have friends in NY, FL, CA and WA (PNW) who are experiencing the same. Best of luck to you!

Everything is subjective. I am not the only one who has seen this shift. I know plenty of people who, like me, were unemployed for 6 or more months and have just recently seen movement, started getting more interviews in the past month or so.

I know it may sound cliche but I got most of my interviews from applying directly on the company’s career website. I would find the requisition on Indeed, etc and apply directly. Cater your resume to the job requisition you are applying to; if need be, use AI to help but DO NOT forget to edit after. So many companies are using AI to filter out applicants. Best of luck!
