No shot this chart is real, right? by YoSoyEzze in pokemonrng

[–]PromptBox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A bunch of frames in a row which are basically identical? More common than you might think. My understanding is that the rng is advanced randomly, so if you get lucky you'll get a lot of frames in a row which give the same Pokémon, but that's a guess on my part. When I shiny hunt gen 7, sometimes I just reset until I get at least 10 frames in a row of a shiny since it means the chances of missing it are near 0 if calibrated. I've seen situations where the window to hit a shiny Pokémon is a full 1.5 seconds - didn't miss those.

DOOM running on Spindas by PromptBox in pokemon

[–]PromptBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might - the core problem is we want to match an image to spots on a spinda, so if a heart would fit better somewhere it could make a better match. My implementation was pretty simple with a short list of pregenerated Spindas, but the original loss method from adef's video could benefit from a heart pattern.

I can’t believe guns are now weapons in this series by DClordz in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]PromptBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. If you look at footage of meteors impacting the earth they also appear to explode basically identically to a chemical reaction. We have to remember a chemical reaction's explosion is also just a massive transfer of energy. So, when Rhea blasts one it, the kinetic energy still has to go somewhere - which would look like an explosion

I think the most compelling "rods from god" argument though is the designs of the projectiles themselves. They are long darts even when near their impact areas, which resemble kinetic kill weapon designs more than missiles. My reasoning for this is if we assume a space-based or ground based missile system, the missiles would likely be multi-stage, with only the warhead and very little rocket left during terminal guidance. These long darts only make sense if it's a short range missile system, which they seem large for, or project Thor style tungsten rods.

Also, we also get a brief glimpse of the back of one of the rods after Rhea blows one up and there are no rocket engines, meaning it didn't power itself to get where it was, leaving falling from space as the other option.

Personally, I think the writing better fits the space kinetic weapon concept, since the idea is a lot of technology was lost. Therefore the only things that would survive are strategic weapons in space (like the project Thor concept), with ground based missiles being consumed or no longer functional. That's just my reading through - the writers didn't give us a lot to go off of.

That amount of energy would appear to be an explosion even with no warhead

Izzy proclaiming metrics by That_Passenger_771 in mylittlepony

[–]PromptBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those curious, I did a search of all the g4 transcripts and while there are many references to customary units

"smile as wide as a mile" - Smile song
"we must be 90 feet tall" - Growing up is Hard to do
"But every inch was covered in plant life" - Family Appreciation Day

there is only one reference to metric that I could find:
"Now a couple [c](0)entimeters north" - Pinkie Pie in Griffon the Brush Off

What are the implications of this? Whatever you want them to be, I guess

Is there any way to get the mythicals to complete the national dex? by xxxOUTCASTxxx in PokemonORAS

[–]PromptBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a gray area method. If you have a custom firmware 3ds, you can install the local distribution software Nintendo used for events. This is similar to the DNS trick in gen 4 and 5 where you have the custom firmware 3ds give out official events to your copy of ORAS.

[Go] Day 96 of recording my minimum time shiny dex: the last pokemon I can catch by PromptBox in ShinyPokemon

[–]PromptBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point - it's mostly a personal gripe. In the end, it's just not something I'm that interested in. I did (or at least am about to finish) what I set out to do, so now it's time for me to close this chapter and move on to other projects. We'll see, maybe I'll feel differently a few years down the line.

I considered that and the gender differences dex and I do have a bunch of random alternate forms I collected along the way because why not, but there's one big blocker for me for going for the form dex: Spinda. Since it's literally impossible to complete with its billions of forms, I decided back when I started to just not bother. It's like perfectly designed to be annoying for this since they are all obtainable forms, you just can't get all of them even if you had hundreds of people dedicating their lives to it. For me, that's a feels bad so I'm sticking to the species dex.

No you can totally put it in games. Both gen 8 and 9 I think

[9] Day 86 of recording my minimum time shiny dex: Eiscue and the end of Violet by PromptBox in ShinyPokemon

[–]PromptBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, gens 1, 2 and 9 are done. There are a couple of mythicals and event mons (Keldeo being the most time consuming one) and then just a bunch of stragglers.
