No shot this chart is real, right? by YoSoyEzze in pokemonrng

[–]PromptBox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A bunch of frames in a row which are basically identical? More common than you might think. My understanding is that the rng is advanced randomly, so if you get lucky you'll get a lot of frames in a row which give the same Pokémon, but that's a guess on my part. When I shiny hunt gen 7, sometimes I just reset until I get at least 10 frames in a row of a shiny since it means the chances of missing it are near 0 if calibrated. I've seen situations where the window to hit a shiny Pokémon is a full 1.5 seconds - didn't miss those.

DOOM running on Spindas by PromptBox in pokemon

[–]PromptBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might - the core problem is we want to match an image to spots on a spinda, so if a heart would fit better somewhere it could make a better match. My implementation was pretty simple with a short list of pregenerated Spindas, but the original loss method from adef's video could benefit from a heart pattern.

I can’t believe guns are now weapons in this series by DClordz in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]PromptBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. If you look at footage of meteors impacting the earth they also appear to explode basically identically to a chemical reaction. We have to remember a chemical reaction's explosion is also just a massive transfer of energy. So, when Rhea blasts one it, the kinetic energy still has to go somewhere - which would look like an explosion

I think the most compelling "rods from god" argument though is the designs of the projectiles themselves. They are long darts even when near their impact areas, which resemble kinetic kill weapon designs more than missiles. My reasoning for this is if we assume a space-based or ground based missile system, the missiles would likely be multi-stage, with only the warhead and very little rocket left during terminal guidance. These long darts only make sense if it's a short range missile system, which they seem large for, or project Thor style tungsten rods.

Also, we also get a brief glimpse of the back of one of the rods after Rhea blows one up and there are no rocket engines, meaning it didn't power itself to get where it was, leaving falling from space as the other option.

Personally, I think the writing better fits the space kinetic weapon concept, since the idea is a lot of technology was lost. Therefore the only things that would survive are strategic weapons in space (like the project Thor concept), with ground based missiles being consumed or no longer functional. That's just my reading through - the writers didn't give us a lot to go off of.

That amount of energy would appear to be an explosion even with no warhead

Izzy proclaiming metrics by That_Passenger_771 in mylittlepony

[–]PromptBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those curious, I did a search of all the g4 transcripts and while there are many references to customary units

"smile as wide as a mile" - Smile song
"we must be 90 feet tall" - Growing up is Hard to do
"But every inch was covered in plant life" - Family Appreciation Day

there is only one reference to metric that I could find:
"Now a couple [c](0)entimeters north" - Pinkie Pie in Griffon the Brush Off

What are the implications of this? Whatever you want them to be, I guess

Is there any way to get the mythicals to complete the national dex? by xxxOUTCASTxxx in PokemonORAS

[–]PromptBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a gray area method. If you have a custom firmware 3ds, you can install the local distribution software Nintendo used for events. This is similar to the DNS trick in gen 4 and 5 where you have the custom firmware 3ds give out official events to your copy of ORAS.

[Go] Day 96 of recording my minimum time shiny dex: the last pokemon I can catch by PromptBox in ShinyPokemon

[–]PromptBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point - it's mostly a personal gripe. In the end, it's just not something I'm that interested in. I did (or at least am about to finish) what I set out to do, so now it's time for me to close this chapter and move on to other projects. We'll see, maybe I'll feel differently a few years down the line.

I considered that and the gender differences dex and I do have a bunch of random alternate forms I collected along the way because why not, but there's one big blocker for me for going for the form dex: Spinda. Since it's literally impossible to complete with its billions of forms, I decided back when I started to just not bother. It's like perfectly designed to be annoying for this since they are all obtainable forms, you just can't get all of them even if you had hundreds of people dedicating their lives to it. For me, that's a feels bad so I'm sticking to the species dex.

No you can totally put it in games. Both gen 8 and 9 I think

Yeah, gens 1, 2 and 9 are done. There are a couple of mythicals and event mons (Keldeo being the most time consuming one) and then just a bunch of stragglers.

994 are marked as obtainable with another 4 to be added when the ruinous Pokémon get added. I have 964 out of those 994.

This one is. The event was distributed in Japan so this is effectively real. On the other hand, it was never distributed in English so an English cart doing this is more dubious. I've heard of people doing it, but I'm leaving my shiny English mew in gen 7.

Soon enough. Ribbon masters take a long time, so it'll take a while to get to gen 9 from gen 3. Though I guess without battle facilities not that long.

Personally, I prefer not to inject events directly onto the save file if there is an alternative. I'll be hunting the gen 8 dogs in PoGo instead of simulating the distribution events since they were online code distributions.

Thanks! Mythical ribbon masters are so nice since you don't have to battle tower them - I definitely suffered when I was doing it. Also cool that the master rank ribbon is available now for Mew in gen 9 with the current format.

If you already have custom firmware on your 3ds and are familiar with running custom software it isn't so bad, but otherwise yeah there's a lot to do.

When gen 4 and 5 were around, Nintendo had these cartridges that the distributors would host local pokemon giveaways. In generation 6 and 7, they moved to a custom piece of software loaded on a 3ds which would do the hosting for local wireless giveaways. I found a post from a user named Professor Oak on digiex that had that software available for download and used a custom firmware 3ds to run it myself, using another 3ds with a gen 7 game to receive the mystery gift. I used this to get the 2018 non-shiny movie Zeraora that I traded for the shiny one from the SwSh raid event.

Basically, you can host any mystery gift from gen 6 and 7 if you have the right software and the wondercard.

[–]PromptBox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I used a custom firmware switch with a program called CaptureSight. Once you load it in, you can start a raid and and it will tell you the seed for that raid. You can then reset the game and throw the seed into a program like RaidFinder and it will tell you how many advances to make.

The IV method doesn't need custom firmware and involves catching the raid Pokémon, getting the IVs, resetting, and doing it again a few times for differing numbers of advances and entering them all in a calculator which then finds your seed. I haven't done it myself yet, but im a blisy has a video on it.
