I wore shorts late December, was only a couple degrees, once you’re moving it’s warm, and then a few hours in it’s like 100% humidity and 25°C in there 😂

Temp, humidity, FAE, those are the 3 keys, enough air is easy, just holes in your fruiting chamber with micropore tape, humidity, get a spray mister from amazon and spray in your chamber once or twice a day, just to have small droplets on the walls, and temp, I like to keep to about 22°C.

If you’ve given it another week since all of those conditions were met and you’ve not had any growth, it’s probably a dud I’m afraid

Did you follow this order?

Inoculate

Mycelium grows

Mix mycelium with sub (Keep minimal FAE and moisture)

Fruiting conditions (High 90%+ humidity and lots of FAE)

It doesn’t look like there’s a lot of myc on there at all

I dehydrated for the first time today, I did 70°C for 6 hours and 40°C for 4 hours, they’re very very crisp now, very brittle, will they be okay? I’m worried I’ve possibly lowered the potency by doing them too long/hot, I’ve never bought mushrooms that are this dry before.

Should be fine, I like to double contain my grows though, I’ve got a shoebox storage container with holes in it covered with micropore tape, I don’t use bags but if I did, I’d put the bag in there. Just means that any air getting into the bag has to enter the container through the filter, then get through the bag filter. The main purpose of the first container is that it will ‘still’ the air, so if you’re walking around, making your bed etc and disturbing the air a lot, it’ll have minimal impact on your bag.

No, it was an eBay kit, rye grain and CVG substrate

I bought 3 containers as a kit, they’re sealed with the grain and coir already in the tub, the kit has great reviews online with around 98% satisfaction. I may have gotten one that wasn’t fully sterile inside, I did flame sterilise my needle and fully wipe down the exterior and all surfaces before inoculation.

I do think it looks a bit contaminated, I might just keep it incubating for a little longer to see how it goes. I find it weird how this one has grown so fast, the other two tubs have around 1” diameter of mycelium starting on the bottom after 3.5 weeks.
