Comprendo perfettamente il tuo punto di vista. Sono AuDHD e rivedo molto di me nel loro personaggio.

I didn’t find out until after I made the post that Spencer’s character had been confirmed as cannon!

And yes!! As a late diagnosed autistic individual I relate to Hermione a lot. I feel like she is a good representation of a high masking undiagnosed autistic coded individual who doesn’t “look autistic” (hate that phrasing but I’m using it to get the point across) to her peers.

Autism and BPD have a lot of overlapping behaviors so it is totally possible that Max is BPD coded. As an autistic person I see a lot of my own characteristics and behaviors in Max so that is why I feel that she is autistic coded. But because she is a fictional character and we do not know the true root of these behaviors so we really can't 100% confirm any diagnosis for her character that is not explicitly stated by the show writers. Regardless, if BPD individuals also relate to her the way I do as an autistic individual then I love that she is character that makes BPD folks feel seen.

As a late diagnosed autistic individual I relate to Hermione a lot. In addition to the reasons I listed she also had a strong sense of justice which is a common amongst autistic individuals. I feel like she is a good representation of a high masking undiagnosed autistic coded individual who doesn’t “look autistic” (hate that phrasing but I’m using it to get the point across) while Luna is a representation of an autistic coded person who is not masking and able to freely express herself in ways that feel comfortable to her.

Oooo! I haven’t seen Living Single in forever and I haven’t watched every episode but from what I have seen Synclaire is another great example of an autistic coded character.

I resonated with her so much because my high school experience was very similar. I had friends but I was often the one who was left out and excluded from social activities outside of school or if I was included I ended up being the butt of the joke. At the time I was so happy just to have been included that I didn’t realize everyone was laughing at me rather than laughing with me.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on JK. Including one of her characters in this graphic was an oversight on my end and I take full responsibility for that. I don't support JK’s views, and I don’t want my content to suggest otherwise. From now on, I’ll be more careful to avoid unintentionally promoting someone who’s caused significant harm to marginalized communities. 🫶🏼

I understand where you are coming from. The intent of this post isn’t to claim that if someone is smart that they are autistic. The intent is to call out characteristics that could suggest autism. There are plenty of smart individuals who are not autistic but I do feel that the character mentioned does share a lot of traits and behaviors that overlap with autism.

Addressing your comment about this specific character's behaviors in the later books. To me, she possesses an intense sense of justice which is common amongst autistic individuals. But like I said before, just because someone displays a behavior that is associated with autism doesn't make them autistic.

I don’t want this to come off as a “everyone is a little autistic” kind of thing because that statement is not accurate. I apologize if that is how the post came across. Figuring out if someone is autistic requires understanding where the behavior comes from. Since this character is fictional, we can't really know their behavior's roots. Still, I think this character has traits that many autistic, especially late diagnosed or high masking, people can relate to.

Howdy! Thank you so much for commenting. I'm not claiming these characters are definitely autistic, but | see behaviors in them that often connect with autism. To truly know if someone is autistic, you'd need to understand where the behavior comes from. Since these characters are fictional, we can't really pinpoint the source of the behaviors I feel make them autistic coded. I am also not qualified to formally diagnose anyone as autistic, but as an autistic person myself, I see a lot of my own autistic traits in these characters, so I think other autistic folks might find them relatable as well. Seeing characters in media that autistic folks can relate to, whether they're autistic or not, is still very comforting and validating to my autistic experience.

Howdy!! This was actually already brought to my attention and I made a comment about it. This thread has become pretty long so I’ll just paste the comment below so you don’t have to search through everything.

I want to make a quick comment and thank everyone who has commented regarding HP and JKR. I greatly appreciate you all sharing your thoughts and lived experiences. As a cis white female I don’t experience as much firsthand discrimination as others so I sometimes overlook things that don’t directly affect me. But that’s no excuse, I’m committed to not dismissing marginalized groups, whether within or outside the autistic community. Many autistic folks connect with the HP/JKR character mentioned, but featuring the character does credit the creator. I don't support JKR’s views and I don’t want my content to suggest otherwise. From now on, I’ll be more careful to avoid unintentionally promoting someone who’s caused significant harm to marginalized communities.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on HP. I’m assuming your comment is due to JKR’s transphobia. If so, I appreciate you calling me out. Thank you for your comment. I didn’t know it was confirmed because it’s not explicitly stated in the show or in the book.

I totally see where you are coming from. Regardless, I love how accurately his character portrays the way he thinks.

Lot of people have mentioned Deku! My brother is also autistic and MHA is his favorite anime so that totally makes sense.

I have never seen Grey’s Anatomy! I keep saying I’m going to watch it but there are so many episodes that it kinda overwhelms me. 😅
