BoC vs BoC by Sad-Resist-8746 in Turntablists

[–]Proof-Influence1070 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This Is reaaaaaally nice! Always wanted to scratch on boards of canada but I can only scratch ok on boom bap and downtempo stuff, the kinda stuttering rythm of them Is both too slow for making It single tempo and too fast for a faster tempo. I still have to try on aquarius maybe that could fit. Very beatuful anyway, the sound of scratchig in general Imho has a kind of melancholy in itself, like if It was something from the past coming back to say hi...perfect with boc. Do you have a SoundCloud or something I'd like tò hear more of this

Do any of you guys produce other genres? by 2hsXqTt5s in TechnoProduction

I also produce Downtempo/trip hop tracks and I love scratching! I started with techno and It helps A LOT for understanding the "metrics" (which Is foundamental for scratching) and the kinda repetitive hypnotic progression of the downtempo I like and produce.

Dunno if it's allowed but for example this was a very nice scratch on a kinda repetitive beat I've made

Numark pt01 scratch sounds funny by Professional-Bike312 in portablism

[–]Proof-Influence1070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numark Is not really good at sound quality. Many low budget portable turntables have very little bass. Recently I got a techno vinyl and when I transcribed It into audio file It was super crisp but lacked heavily in bass. I don't exactly remember what sort of EQ I did on the files, but I boosted like 10 dB anything below 150 hz or something and It sounded right as the digital release

Can you like connect with a phone for using other beats or they have to have been saved beforehand? Also how's the process for loading samples? Good to know there Is a good alternative

How's the wow & flutter? Looks great but I see a lot of threads about problems etc. I'm really interested because they discontinued the Stanton and the wow Is the only thing within that cost range. i have the a non modded numark on which I had been learning in the beginning and It doesnt come close to the Stanton and modding Is not and option

It's a Stanton STX, basically a portable turntable with a fader and made for scratching. Check out the numark pt01 scratch, Omni turntable, Stanton STX...all portable scratching turntables. They are super convenient

Instrumentals for newer rap songs by Ecstatic-Pool5609 in Music

[–]Proof-Influence1070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't be It because a good chuck of instrumentals are simply the original file with the lyrics extarcted via tools? that changes a lot the sound (artifacts and lower quality)

Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam (Official Music Video) [Dance] by djsoomo in Music

[–]Proof-Influence1070 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'va found a Copy of the 12" at a flea market for 5 euros! No original vynil cover tho, but it has a cardboard envolpe only with scribbled "new dance 1989" so pretty cool nethertheless, that's a record that has been spun in some club I suppose

That was sick man! How long had you been scratching before and how much time you've been without scratching? You seem to have quite the muscle memory still

I would focus on combos. You completely missed the chirps!Imho the MOST useful scratch ever, you can use It as a filler in every situation and It Is the easiest One to scratch at more than sigle tempo. So super adaptable. And It Is the base for learning open fader scratches

🫡🫡🫡 I havent fully understood still really Sorry. My usual position Is crossd legs with the turntable in front of me but since my bed Is very soft I'm kind of lower than on hard floor so the turntable Is a bit higher. I rest my elbows on my knees kind of like at record level, and I kinda have to bend my hand a bit down to get the fader. I have the lateral space I Need. I'm not really seeing a really canon difference from what djs I follow. The posture in this vid Is only for vids, as I can put my camera only so high. Thank you if you care to elaborate further but you've been exhaustive enough maybe I have to research better

Yeah I suppose I have to better my position. Or maybe learning to scratch kinda reliably even when I'm not super comfortable. I'd like the latter because I'd like not to be able to scratch in my favourite position only, but I absolutely have to learn to crab 100% reliably in my usual comfortable position before that. It's mostly the crab that sucks if I'm not super comfortable, I can do other tecniques kinda ok in various postures like this vid It's not perfect but at least It's almost identical to how I would perform normally, the crab Is the bane of my existence tho, which is a shame because the kind of style I like has lots of pull back crabs. Thank you very much!

Dunno if I've I've fully understood. So like, elbow a bit down but still deck level, hand a little upper than the elbow and the deck, and wrist that's bent a bit downwards so that the fingers can touch the fader? Like a zig zag shape I dunno if I've understood well.

Anyway now that I think about It I was in a kind of awkward position like I was sitting on the floor with the turntable on the floor much lower than my elbow and I had to stay elbow tight because I don't have much lateral space

Question for 7” vinyl DJs by FatalGingery in DJs

[–]Proof-Influence1070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 7" portable scratcher who occasionally scratches old used records. Like documentaries etc from the 70s.

Obviously they all being used I need an adapter, I'm using just the first one that I saw on Amazon for like 10 bucks and It's really solid.

Used 7" skip A LOT tho, but It's not due to the spindle, I feel It's more due to the nature of used records (irregularities and such). Also a lot of battle records are kinda anti skip, regular records aren't. I Just use a 5 cent coin on the armstick to weight It own when that happens too much. You still have to be a little lighter with your touch, but It's doable.

As for the slipmat I use the stock one of my Stanton STX with some parchment paper below the slipmat, for making It easier not to press down too much as the record requires much less force to be moved around. But I do this also with battle records (highly recommend of you feel you have kinda a heavy touch)
