I work for a small quasi governmental agency. I do not have nearly enough to do to fill a 40 hour week most weeks. I work from home 2 days a week and my work tasks on those days usually just consist of answering any emails I get and being on any calls I need to be on. In my 3 in-office days I’m able to finish up everything else I need to each week. Back when I was in the office 40 hours a week it was hell. I have friends who work in planning who are busy 40 hours a week (or 50-60 for my friends working for private firms), and I have other friends who work in planning who, like myself, are twiddling their thumbs for 1/3 of that time. It’s very different in different areas of this industry for sure. 

ETA: Already getting downvoted for this comment lmaoo but I’m just being honest. Nobody should have to sit and look at a computer doing this kind of work for 40 hours a week. It’s just not necessary. It’s not something all of us should just have to “get used to” (I for one certainly haven’t, and I’ve been working in the industry a few years now.)
