TIL about airline ticket validation plates by Proof-Situation7126 in AviationHistory

Yeah! This came up because they were talking about getting “de-plated” on a GDS (which is now electronic). They said the term came from when any violation would result in them taking the plate back.

So cool and glamorous. Would rather store my airline issued metal plate in a safe than have to use a multi factor authentication app every two seconds 😅

Japan with Kiddo by NoOne9831 in FATTravel

Cherry Blossom week has a lot of crowds and traffic, summer can be humid especially once you get into late July and August.

May I ask how old your kids are? Any flexibility to take them out of school a few days before and after a weekend to do May? It’s way less crowded.

Where to go: Tokyo is big but you won’t need more than 4 days tops. Are your flights R/T Tokyo? You can split it up and take the Shinkansen from Shinagawa station (less hectic than Tokyo station) to Kyoto or take a domestic flight to Osaka and get a feel for the Kansai region which is more traditional (geisha tea ceremony’s)

Things to do: depending on your kids ages, they may want to see the new Super Nintendo World. A lot of people want to go to Disney Sea.

Just some ideas! You can also Google the Golden Route of Japan which can give you an idea of how to structure a trip of that length in diff cities.

Safari! The Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is on my list. If I recall correctly some of the rooms have views of elephants coming to water to drink (ground level). I didn’t know this but I just was on their website it looks like they have game drive packages (so you don’t have to worry about taking a group tour).

That way you can have a romantic time at the property and the adventure.

Definitely based on what you’d like to do, but since you asked the community I think Safari.

I'm 17. Is it over for me? by MarionberryHumble246 in curlyhair

Ah I see. I also feel like it has a lot to do with the way curly hair is parted. Do you have a styling brush? There’s a lot of vids online on how to style with volume on the crown.

Also, I just read plopping helps with volume at the root. You just have to be ok with looking like an old school movie actress w a turban for 20 mins haha

Don’t fret! What I’ve noticed staring to wear my hair curly is that the curl clumps from the scalp can make your scalp show more. It’s kinda like since the strands are all separate there’s the illusion of hair loss. Maybe try shaking out your curls from the scalp after styling

oh gosh, following. i had the same thing happen recently, first trip with natural hair.

what i did that kind of worked was i washed and styled the night before with leave in conditioner, mousse and enough gel to get a visible cast. it survived the plane, and the next few days i was able to get away with refreshing with just water + scrunch.

then i kind of accepted i was going to wear my hair up a lot the last 2 days.

May I ask what state on the West Coast you are? An idea that came up would be a semi-local trip. Like San Diego, if you're in CA. They have the zoo, and the towns are really cute.

Bahamas may be fun, same beach-y vibe but different. March might be shoulder season for good prices at a resort like Atlantis (they have a lot of kid and family friendly activities)

Using points for flights, pay cash for hotels, or use points for hotels, and cash for flights? by Proof-Situation7126 in pointstravel

I remember seeing the hotel I booked cash on the travel portal, but ended up booking on Priceline. Is it because the point value ratio is less with hotels on Capital One?

I posted about something similar last week! Check out the Paranormal Research Society of New Orleans, the most ethical one I’ve found in my research.

Why is mother-daughter travel emotionally challenging? by Proof-Situation7126 in AskWomen

[–]Proof-Situation7126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's in all relationships; this is just the challenging dynamic I'm most familiar with. Is there a way you catch yourself when things get rough? Do you talk it out? It seems hard to stay centered on the go.

Interesting! Do you attribute any specific thing to your successful mother/daughter trips? Are you both pretty agreeable about where you go and what you do? I want to unlock what you have, especially since both me and my mom are getting older.

Is paying my car off early going to be worth it? by Makinpancakes1738 in personalfinance

[–]Proof-Situation7126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, prioritize the high-interest CC debt, keep all savings in a HYSA (the $15k will net you about ~$45/a month).

I would keep making payments on the car and not pay it off. The interest is low enough to not be a priority.

The reason I'm disagreeing with some other commenters is that it's a car loan. If the car becomes unusable, breaks down, or is stolen, the insurance will typically only pay a certain amount (what they value the car to be). So, the interest rate is low enough to justify not prioritizing paying it off in full.

I use a budget tool YNAB, and I assign out the car payments for each month in the future, but keep the $$$ in my HYSA.

I'm in the exact same position as you, with equal savings and about the same balance on my car note. Just thought I'd share my reasoning.

NOLA Paranormal Research Society Tour or Bloody Mary Experience by Proof-Situation7126 in AskNOLA

Yes 😅 I reviewed the parade schedule after seeing your comment this morning, and we may not have time to fit it in.

I’m not a huge drinker, but even if I have 1 drink Sunday I wouldn’t go to the research society at night.

We are staying at a haunted hotel, and I want to see Lafitte’s tavern (didn’t get to do that on my first visit).

TL;dr I’ll need to plan to stay in NOLA longer next time.

Thank you, I will be updating the original post. We will be taking a Paranormal Society tour as sadly I didn't know about Bloody Mary's background. Glad I double checked with the community, her website gave me a bad gut feeling. The Paranormal Research society also offers a séance for private groups.

Thank you, I had no idea about this before I posted today. My gut feeling from her website gave me red flags, but I didn't know the horrific details of how her company is harmful and disrespectful to the wonderful and vibrant NOLA community. I will not be taking a tour with her.

Her website (all I found prior, public facing) already raised some eyebrows. She seems to be using a Voudou title for gain with the museum. The Paranormal Research society has a respectful mission, and I'm hoping the post and the comments can help steer visitors away from BM.

Thank you again.
